Widest you can make steelies (Steel 15" wheels)?

Just curious how wide you can make the inside of a steel 15" early wheel. 7" like the 911R, possibly? I don't to widen it on the outside; want the stock look...Thanks! Scott
PS. I need a set of 4/5 wheels (steelies) if you have one.

Evidently there is a place in Gardena (near LA) that others have used for this service (Bolton might be the name).

Stockton wheel will do it. They are only going to use the centers and you will have to provide them with the backspacing measurement. Harvey Weidmen will also take care of this for you by providing them with known to work measurements

I have a single from ebay that is very close to 911 R offset that easily fits under the rear of my non flared car. It actaully needs a spacer to push it a little further out to fill out the wheel well so I decided not to use it. I think you might be able fit an 8" under a non flared car with the right offset, the right car, the right oil line install, and a little luck. 8" has to be close to max without pulling flares out, etc. Im going with standard 15x7 fuchs measurements on mine since I already know they fit my car, and Im not smart or lucky enough to figure out the offsets for the 8" wheel.

Great info. Will these look totally stock in 7" (allowing some movement of the offsets?)?

I dont know. Im sure a purest will spot them a mile away, but they look stock enough for me. If you dont move the outboard side of the wheel I think you are going to have to use spacers to fill in the wheel wells.

One not so cool thing about these is that they are friggin heavy. The 4.5x15 must weigh 20lbs. the custom 7" I have feels like weighs at least 35lbs.

Yeah, that is the trade-off....and in the wrong place too. I suppose I might just run them in the stock size and have a good time squirreling around on 165s(?), then get some Fuchs when I want to buckle down and really race (probably 951 8"s, lots of negative camber in the rear and 16x7"F.)

cant be that heavy, the quote I got for turbo widths (600 bucks) for 8's and 10's, was 32 and 35 lbs each.

yeek...

Couple of thoughts... first, I have 15x9 on the rear of my narrow car with 225/45/15's. Unorthodox? Yes, I suppose. Don't believe me? I'll post a pic. They are Gotti wheel intended for the front a 930 with a spacer. I have no spacer, so they fit fine.

Second, you can put a lot of rubber onto those wheels. I've had as wide as a 205 on them and that really isn't pushing it over the limit on the 5.5 inchers. They accept a 185/60/15 with no sweat. So, you're not stuck with 165's.

I've seen cars running widened steelies. Both painted and chrome. My GUESS was that the Porsche centers were welded into Detroit outers...maybe Chevrolet? Yes, heavier...but I thought they looked Wayyy Cool!
