Short gears
This is an early morning picture of my RS replica in fifth gear. Any one else running short gears?

Based on most 911 speedometers, I'd guess that's about 60-62 mph at 3400 rpm? That's very close to the 5th in my 8:31 box. For me, 3000 rpm is 61 mph, 3500 rpm is 71 mph, 4000 rpm is 81 mph.

I have a 7:31 ring & pinion in my car. Pretty buzzy on the freeway, but what an awesome setup for autocrossing!

Sounds about right, Jack, I get an indicated 150 at 7500 rpm. But that's me looking down real fast at that speed just for reference. BTW I've never seen this car's redline of 8200 rpm in fifth. Starts climbing real slow over 7000 rpm in top.
Outside shot, just for kicks. ![]() |
