				Cutting Bilstein shock stop

Can anyone tell me what's the safe amount one can cut the rubber bump stops on the Bilstein Sport shocks? The car is lowered to a level slightly lower than Euro, but not quite race.

Removing them will definately cause damge should the shock bottom. Pics show front and rear stops; it looks like you can cut them in sections. Front: Rear: TIA. j.p. |

JP - I think SRP has instruction on the pdf at their web site.

My bet is that the amt. that is safe to cut depends on how big a bump you hit...

I may be way off base here but I seem to recall that when I installed by Bilstein Sports I spoke to the factory and they said that the Bilsteins have internal bump stops and do not require the factory bump stops. I'm pretty sure I did not reinstall mine. Please don't rely on my memory though, call the factory.

The rears have an external bump stop.

The front Bilstein inserts for the *Boge* struts have an internal bump stop. The shaft is sealed in that application and you couldn't add a bump stop even if you wanted to. The above pic appears to show a bilstein insert for a bilstein strut, those do have an external bump stop that should be shortened for lower applications. Smart Racing instructions http://www.smartracingproducts.com/pdfdocs/bilstein_rubbershock_front.pdf http://www.smartracingproducts.com/pdfdocs/bilstein_rubbershock_rear.pdf edited for spelling!

Mine were indeed inserts for the factory Boge struts. Thanks for the clarification Todd.
