Question 911sc seat knob help needed

Hi,
I recently had my front seats recovered in my '83 911sc and received them back, but I just noticed on the passenger side the seat knob is up top of the stroke, where the knob should be sitting on the bottom and you lift them up to lay the seat forward and the knob will spring back down as you all know.

I can take the knob and move it down, but it wants to spring back to the top. Did they not hook up the lever properly or is there something else wrong. Please don't say I have to pull the cover off to fix this. Anyone have some suggestions to correct this.

Thanks,
Glen

I forget how the sliders attach to the seats, but could it be they are reversed from right to left?

Hi ianc,

Thanks for the reply. It's possible that I may have reversed the sliders, but would this cause the seat knob to not work properly? I have never looked at the mechanism for the seat knob with the covers off, so it's hard to know. The drivers seat knob works like it should. I'll have to take a look into the sliders.

Thanks for the suggestion

Glen

Hi Glen,

I'll try to explain this but be patient. I have a 78 sc and I think our seats are the same. The knob is spring loaded and there is a wire that goes down thru the seat to the release mechanism. If you feel the hole at the bottom of the seatback, closest to the door you'll feel the latch and you should be able to pull it up with your finger. You should also be able to feel the wire. This latch has a hole that the wire goes through and a little clip goes on the little retainer ball (what the heck is this thing called?). If you can find the clip youll need to do some fancy hand manouvers to push the wire through the hole and get the clip on. I pushed the lever down and inserted a matchbook above it so it would not pop back up. then I used my needle nose vise grips to grab and hold the wire about 1/2" from the end, pushed it through the hole tried to put the clip on, dropped it, cussed for five min. and repeated the action until successful. This is a lot easier to do out of the car.

Good luck, Dave

pyro57,

Thanks for the info Dave. Looks like I'm gonna have to remove the seat and give it a try. It just bothers me not having this right. I bet it is a tight area and I'm sure I'll give your cussing time a run for it's money

Thanks again, I appreciate it
Glen
