Fiberglass rear flares not cracking possible?
I have a set of rear fiberglass rsr flare that I'm debating putting on my car. I was told these are usually glued on with industrial glue and then glassed over. I was also told that, since the expansion rates of fg and metal are different, the figerglass will eventually crack.
I was wondering if rivets and bondo would be better. Or maybe another method.. Any insight? Thanks- Craig Backer |

the 77 I bought has FG flares, and they were bolted on and then glassed over, you can see cracks where this was done, I was told by the body shop the reason why is the same reason you mentioned, however Ive been told by other people if done right its not a issue. My opinion and Im not a expert, if you want the paint job to last, dont do it. If you want the look of wider flares consider steel, your car will be worth more if done in steel.

All of the factory DP cars use fiberglass fenders and I doubt that those crack.

since you are in San Francisco, you should stop by the International Body Shop in San Bruno (650) 430 8733.
Talk to Johnny, tell him Vlad with yellow RSR sent you. They are the experts on fibeglass work and have put 100s of fiberglass kits on Porsche, here are my fiberglass 1/4 panels and fenders... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
