GaryR 10-13-2005 06:03 PM

What are the specs of this turbo-monster??

More pics!

air-cool-me 10-13-2005 06:17 PM

specs?

sc cams, 8-1, stock boost...

not sure .. it has close to 100miles on it.. so haven't made a trip to the dyno

anyone want to make a guess as to how many ponys pushing this thing around?

plenty for a 2480lb car i would say!..

rdane 10-13-2005 06:20 PM

Congrads Mr Muscle...now...do you have time for a spin in the morning ?

Tell us more about the engine? Early 3 liter? You added 98s to? Gotta be close to 300 I would think.

yup...

Actualy its not anything fancy....i ended up having monty build me a late 3.3L stock p's and c's 74.4 by 97?

took some off the heads to make 8-1 and slaped in the cams..

oh...and its got euro exhaust.

feels like 500 when the little 225's are begging for mercy..

rdane 10-13-2005 07:27 PM

Hey I have no clue, could well be 500!

WydRyd 10-13-2005 08:23 PM

An increase in compression won't yield THAT much more HP at the stock boost levels I'd think.

ianc 10-13-2005 09:26 PM

Awesome car.

Worst pix evar.

air-cool-me 10-13-2005 11:55 PM

sorry... for some reason the sun keep setting despite my intention to take pictures..

I wasn't serious about the 500. Its way less....
im just going to hazard a guess of "a little over 300"

think thats fair?

rdane 10-14-2005 11:20 AM

Nick gave me a ride this morning after a short drive together. This car is very very fast. I suspect it would run away from my 3.6.

Pretty fun! Thanks Nick.

air-cool-me 10-14-2005 02:57 PM

the thing is MELTING my rear bumper! time to break out the hole saw...

rdane 10-14-2005 05:06 PM

Ah! The smells of a new engine....the hotter they are, the hotter they really are. You have a beast there Nick. I suspect with a little more tire and a L/S you'll be have way more fun than any under age "kid" really deserves :D Have fun flying it back to school!

(unless it was me of course;)

Looking forward to the next ride in the Blackbird..

Ruff really did have the right idea.

john walker's workshop 10-14-2005 05:58 PM

make a stainless heat shield, and wrap it and the turbo/muffler in silver heat blanket, before you melt the bumper pads and blister all the paint off. if that's a stock muffler and cat, ditch it in favor of a monty or something. the cat bakes the engine as well as the body. nice sleeper.

JW advice it great.... but who can resist getting fiberglass dust all over yourself?

Craig 930 RS 10-14-2005 06:10 PM

I wish it weren't going to rain tomorrow am.....I'd love to run with the new beastie. Bald Victoracers don't work too swell in the rain. That beatch is gonna be Q U I C K....

200 lbs less than my car.

I have the same problem and avoid Craig like the plague...I don't want to build another car! I should have ignored you this morning.

But a narrow a body turbo is really cool! I may have made a serious mistake.

What do ya call a narrow body, 600hp Porsche? "Yellow bird" done in your choice of colors :D

Craig 930 RS 10-15-2005 07:46 AM

Uh, Dane your car is hellaciously fast. I have little doubt that it is nearly as quick as my car

rdane 10-15-2005 08:45 AM

Thanks Craig. But it needs a few days on the track with the "regulars" before I believe that. For a car I use to be a bit uncomfortable in ...funny now I'm thinking it could use another couple hundred HP.

k9handler 10-15-2005 08:46 AM

so do the holes cut in the bumper seem to help with cooling?

Craig 930 RS 10-15-2005 09:00 AM

The current HP is never enough. The 930 now feels as if it is lacking in power above about 90 mph.

'Tis like crack, my friend.....
------------------------------------

The PO performed the hole-ectomy and I have no doubt that it is a necessity. There is an astounding amount of heat off the turbo, just unbelievable -

patkeefe 10-15-2005 09:06 AM

Nick:
How much quicker is it than with the old motor? And, is that a 930 engine you put in there?

I think Nick is on the road back to Arizona but I got a feel for old and new from our drives and his comments so I'll butt in. No comparison It is a early '80s 930 with SC cam and a compression bump just rebuilt. And it is very fast in a 2400# car.

He has to be in the mid 300s on torque and some where just over 300 on HP if my LWT 3.6 is any comparison. Nick said it felt liek a full 100/100 over his 3L turbo kit.

Crack? About the same price as P-car HP I hear :D

patkeefe 10-15-2005 09:47 AM

Thanks Dane:
I know he didn't have the intercooler on the old setup, but I wasn't sure if he was going ahead with the 930 transplant. Good thing he studies aero, if that thing can fly like that!
Pat

RarlyL8 10-15-2005 05:11 PM

I don't know why more people don't put 930 engines in SCs and Carreras. Makes 'em wicked fast. Mine has twice the HP as the modded SC engine I took out and feels three times as fast. It is sooooooooo much fun.

air-cool-me 10-16-2005 05:04 PM

Im home.. i will post more when i regain the feeling in my ass..

I don't know.. it was bubbling the paint so i cut the holes and now the bumper looks fine(aside from the holes)?:D

Pat.... the jump from NA to BAE was great.. it took the SC to a power level that is equal to modern sports cars..10lbs per HP it was alot of fun on the track and plunty of power till 4 days ago..

the 3.3L takes it all the way to super-car territory... with the narrow body is just keeps pulling and pulling no matter how high the speedo climbs.. but it also makes you wish you could fit more rubber... I will have to get back to you when i get some decent 245's back there..

you can roll onto the gas in 5th at 65.... and have just enough time to wave goodbye to the car next to you...

BTW pat... you get that second box yet?

patkeefe 10-16-2005 05:13 PM

Nick:
Yes, I got the second box, but haven't had time to open it.
How high did you get the tach in the desert?
Pat

air-cool-me 10-16-2005 05:43 PM
