The little smiley face after his statement means he intended no ill will. However, after you admitted that you couldn't wait to take better pics before posting them here, well, consider the floodgates open.

Look... another smiley face meaning, well, you get the point.

From what I can see (bad light), they look cool and go with the car. But, did I not read on the board some time back, that it is actually bad to put 18's on our older cars? I even remember someone posting a notification from Porsche that it could damage the suspension and associated components??? I am sure the experts will chime in here....

nice wheels
but here is it the porsche note about 18" wheels
Wheels - Unapproved Installation of 18 Inch Wheels
Group
4

Number
9305

Model
All

Part Identifier
4412

March 23, 1993

Subject:
Installation of Porsche 18" Wheels Not Approved

ATTENTION:
Service Manager/Service Technician

Models Affected:
All

Concern:
Retrofitting 18" wheels on Porsche vehicles which do not have 18" wheels as original equipment is NOT ALLOWED.

General Information:
Endurance tests have shown that equipping certain Porsche vehicles with 18" wheels in an application not already approved by Porsche Cars, N.A. may result in loosened bolts and/or threaded connections on the front wheel carriers. This, in turn, may cause fractures in these components. Fractures may also occur in the front strut mounts and in the body in the area of the rear suspension as a result of the installation of 18" wheels not already approved for installation for this specific application.

Such damage can occur without warning and the vehicle may become very hard to control or steer as a result of this improper installation

its ok alll dealers say that i had problems when i put 20" wheels on my 2005 explorer sporttrac the dealer was ranting and raving about it and then i found out the same dealer offers the neww trucks with 20" wheels as a display car intheir show room. Its all about liability. And tell me why porsche would do a test on a 20 year old car. my cousin bought a used 1997 911 and 9 days later the enginge went and the dealer didnt step up to repairs they slammed the door on our face and said it was a $26000 bill for an engine. People worry to much and plus i only drive the car once a month if i get time.

If that was the Case not to put bigger Rims on Cars (New or olders) cause there is no Validation performed no Aftermarket companies have been making huge $$$$$ profits on those components : Like CEC, Champion , Ruf, 9ff . And Back to the point : Your wheels looks nice!.................Congratulations .

9 days later the engine went? You of course had full PPI done by a separate porsche mechanic?

Your car looks great. I've had 18" on my 86 911 for over two years with no problems at all.

i'm still working on identifying wheels w/o being told what they are, with that said if those are "cup" wheels, they are the 1st that i've found to look good. something about those rivits...

I like the rivits too, but they are a REAL pain to keep clean and look good at the same time.

Porsche has no business "approving" rim sizes on older cars. What liability do they have for a 20 year old car? Pure BS.

An 18" rim and tires is capable of having the same overall diameter of the 15" or 16" rim and tires they replaced. The amount of grip increased by lower profile tires is probably insignificant to a properly maintained suspension. The problem is that the suspension components may be 20 years old. If that is the case then 15" wheels with low profile tires might be enough to harm the car.

Yours look great by the way.

Ha, you'd be surprised. This is a society in which (until recently) people could bring suit against a firearm manufacturer because one of their guns was used to kill someone.

True, but a wheel\tire combo utilizing 18" rims will have much less compliance than one with smaller rims. That extra stiffness could excessively wear or fatigue the suspension or mounting points, causing failure.

I'm not sure of the actual danger level here, but I'd be willing to bet the guys at Porsche did not take the trouble to write up this advisory simply because they were bored sitting around and didn't have anything better to do.
