904 replica
Scratch this if too far off topic - Tom McBurnie's Thunder Ranch is introducing a 904 replica soon. I'm not a kit car fan, but I know McBurnie's cars have a good history and would like to hear from anyone having personal experience w/his products. I can't afford a genuine 904 & would probably fear to drive it, but a well done replica of that beautiful car as a daily driver peaks my interest.

Beck has a 904 replica as well (but kinda spendy if I remember correctly). Do a search on this list for Beck.

My Dad has them working on a 550 spyder replica with a 2.4 911 engine in it. I've seen the 904 molds at his shop, I believe it's built around a Porsche 6 not VW 4 like most replicas, it will be a really nice car (I think Thunder Ranch makes Becks bodies, but I'm not 100% sure). Tom builds some really cool cars. You should go down to El CAjon and check out his shop, you'll be impressed.
There are a couple of pics of the spyder in this thread: Best 550 Spyder colors (other than silver) |

Here are a few pics of a Beck 904 I saw at Sebring as couple of weeks ago.

the car you saw at sebring is a pre production mule. Chuck has been testing a lot of different things on that car, so it is nowhere up to snuff regarding final fit/ finish and other (lotsa) details. As of last week's conversation with Chuck, there is now a contract for Superformance to manufacture the cars in South Africa. Initial thoughts of the cars being offered will be in a Race style version (very light, roll cage, lexan windows) and luxo barge version (electric windows, full sound deadening, a/c) Prices being discussed are in the $50k range plumbed, painted, etc just needing your motor and trans

I think the Beck 904 is designed for a 993 motor and G50 tranny...

If only I was rich, a 904 with 993 3.6 and G50 would be insane.
