Wurth SKS coverage
I am going to buy some Wurth SKS to patch some areas on my targa that is disassembled for paint. I need to coat a few areas along the vertical fender support, rocker and would like to recoat the engine bay.
How far will one liter go? |
Hi Jaime,
I used less than a litre for the engine bay. Just be sure to mask the car well; when you "splatter paint", it really does splatter!!!!!!! Andras |

Did you use a Wurth gun or just a regular gun and how did it come out LM |
As a comparison,I just did a gas tank (from bare metal) and used the best part of a liter to get complete coverage. If you're trying to refresh an existing finish and not starting from bare metal, you should get better (+ 30-40 % ?) coverage.
The process splats out small lumps of the stuff rather than an even spray. Much like a drywall texture gun, if you've ever used one. The first few passes over bare metal leave a lot of the metal shining through. Joe |
Hi Jamie,
I used a splatter gun purchased at Harbor Freight; it is almost identical to that by Wurth, but costs only about $8.- The one down-side is you have to improvise with the paint container. I happened to have made one from another cylindrical container (it was a plastic mustard bottle) that had a screw top which fit the splatter gun's threads. It was also just the right length to have the splatter gun's feed tube go down to the bottom of the bottle. It came out wonderfully. As Joe said, you should plan to put on two light coats (don't all sprayers say that ??!!), rather than one heavy coat. I have pictures, but they are paper prints, and I don't have them at the office, so can't scan them. But if you wish, I'll bring them, scan them, and you can see that it's all worth (Wurth????) it. I'm planning to do the trunk also, but there is so much more stuff to mask, that I'll need lots of time to do that. Don't forget - preparation is everything!!!!!! |
I used about 8 liters for the entire bottom of a 914
http://www.phoenixhobbies.com/html/paint.html Scroll down a few pictures to see it in progress, I used the Wurth gun and it works very well. For the small area you want to do 1 liter will be plenty. |
