The 15-mile radios I've used have a hard time getting a signal with the elevation changes and grandstands at tracks. I think you'd have huge quality problems trying to broadcast the video without professional equipment.

I'm with Jack on that one. On board recording is the way to go since MiniDV format decks and cameras are so light and the quality is great. One could have a monitor in the pits just for real time observation using one of those transmitters though. Wireless video is rarely any good even at the pro level.

OK, somebody needs to setup an in-car track version of this:

Its been too long since I've posted over here! Been a little busy with racing, software, and PCA stuff. Sooo......

Finally got some recent videos sorted and posted for your entertainment!

The Gallery is now searchable. You can search by Car, Track, and Logger.

The coolest aspect of all this is the diversity:
- a wide range of cars, from street cars to a wide range of racers
- tracks in the UK, Europe, Australia, and all over North America.

Now that this is done, we will be adding new material as the season progresses. Enjoy!

I have followed this thread and researched the products. I just ordered some gear from a different supplier.

http://www.viosport.com/store/customer/ourgear.php?page=gear_overview

I already own 2 Archos AV700's these are digital Video Recorders that have 40GB harddrives.

I tried using the Chase cams and they just will not interfce with the AV700. I just ordered some interface cables from Viosport and 2 of their Adventure Cam 3's. I figure f this stuff can hold up to Mortorcycle racing and snowmobiling they will be up for in car video.

My brother and I opened up an in car video service and have been doing some free or next to free work so far as we tweek and experiment with equipment.
This weekend we are in Sebring for a SoloII event and might possibly throw our gear in a ITS RX-7 for an SCCA race over on the short track.

I will post up some video next week using this new gear.

We were able to force the Chase Camera and AV700 to communicate with each other. The interface was not pretty and the video quality was not too good. We are hoping that these new cameras will do the trick. They arrive tomarrow.

I am very interested in your product and would love to offer it to my clients as we iron out our video quality.

I will be e-mailing you next week for more info.

Hey Guys,

Great info!!!

A note to add to recording video from a modified Porsche. At the 1998 Historic races at Laguna Seca, I was asked to help with the shooting of a video from a '64 Carrera 4 Cam... (I have been a cameraman for several decades).
Bruce Jennings' Carrera has the reputation as the "winningest Private- entered Porsche. To cut to the chase (pun intended), we had a small 8mm Video Camera, which we duct-taped to the roll bar ( I don't know how we got away with it?). Bob Garretson the former race driver at the wheel. We hit the record button and we kept our fingers crossed that the camera would not become a missile!
Afterwards, the video looked great on the practice lap, but when the race really got started the video turned to "white-out" when the rpm hit the high note, on deceleration the video came back to normal!
I am not sure what kind of ignition was on that Porsche, but there was major interference at highr revs.

I just thought I would add my 02 cents to the discussion, meanwhile I will bookmark this valuable information for future reference!

Thanks again for postin it!
