Dallas, TX Emissions Info
I am planning on moving to Dallas this summer. I just checked TX law and it seems that Dallas County is one of the few counties to require emmisions testing. My 911 will be running SSI's and a Monty Dual Out. Do they just run it on the emissions equipment or do they do a visual. If they don't do a visual, is there any way to get it to pass the emissions test?
It is an 84, so close to the 24 yr exemption yet so far.

They run it on emissions equipment. But you should be able to pass without a cat if your car is in the proper state of tune.

I may just leave my car registered as a Maryland vehicle while in Dallas. I am going to be a graduate student who plans on working in Dallas after graduating. My father told me to keep it registered as a Maryland vehicle until 2008 when it becomes exempt.

I believe Collin county tests, also. You have to get out a couple counties before they stop using equipment. I am about to switch to a test pipe, though, so I'll let you know how it goes.

FWIW, my '88 has passed with flying colors every time. However the tech mentioned that he has seen a lot of 911s test very rich but I'm not sure why.

Collin, Dallas, and Denton county all do emissions testing on a "dyno". My RoW '85 has passed the last three years so far with no troubles. But I am keeping my fingers crossed for my renewal at the end of this month :-)

My '81 passed with no problem (after tune-up), but I still have a cat. I'm exempt now, of course.
Most 911s get max power when running rich. Just turn the mixture back down before testing...

They do visual too, but you get young kids often not knowing what they're looking at. One inspection I went in for, the kid asked if my car was "one of the years where the motor is in front".
