Rebuild a 3LDZ Turbo?
I'm at a decision point in my very slow (7 months, and counting) 3.0 Turbo engine rebuild. I am investing in new Mahle pistons and cylinders, and a bunch of other stuff, so hopefully this will be a long lived, happy motor. It is going together stock, except for SC cams (which were already there) and a post '86 exhaust (no thermal reactors or replacement pipes).
The decision I need to make is what to do about the turbo. My turbo is worn. I'm looking for opinions on rebuild vs. new vs. K27. I would only make a change in specification if it improved driveability - I am not trying for big HP numbers, because I don't think that the 3.0 motor is the right set up for that. Budget is an issue, too. Thanks in advance. Tom |

Not worth it to rebuild the 3LDZ, it's better suited to be a door stop.
Call Stephen at Imagine auto, get the K27 7200 and all will be well. david 89 turbo cab |

No one will suggest that you rebuild the stock turbo.
A used K27 7200 has lower boost threshold (increased driveability) and increased performance without breaking the bank. The K27 HF is the latest ticket so 7200 pricing should be more reasonable now.
