3.2 engine breather drama!
Hi all
I was checking out the engine on my '87 3.2 last weekend and noticed that the hose from the engine to the oil tank looked a bit "odd". On looking closer it was apparant the the rubber had perished and the hose had collapsed - it was flat! I ordered a new one and went to fit it this weekend - its an awkward job as it is difficult to reach the hose clip on the engine without significant dismantling but with perseverance I got it off. I then removed the oil tank end and .............. a mass of mayonaise and water fell out with a "slop" all over my engine!!!!! Yuk! The car has now gone to my mechanic for a service and to replace the oil hoses to the thermostat as they are leaking. I mentioned the mess I'd found and he pointed out that this emphasised the need for annual oil changes on lightly used cars, which mine is - only about 2K miles a year and last oil change 3 years ago! Anyway, just a cautionary tale but I do wonder if there is corrosion inside the engine???? By the way, the idle is much better since the hose was changed. You just discovered the wonderfull world of condensation. Short tripos and cool damp weather add to the problem.
