I'm gonna try some airbrushing, and experience out there?
I had to fix some surface rust this weekend and I had to take it down to the metal. In the end I have about a 3" bt 10" area I will need to repaint. I started with some self etching primer, then some gray primer and sanded/feathered out the edges into the existing paint.
I have an airbrush that I paint model cars with (mostly le mans cars) and I've gotten pretty decent at "small cars". My airbrush has a water separator and adjustable air regulator. My paint is from paintscratch.com - guards red. Has anybody tried this yet? Any input would be appreciated.

I've done some small paintwork like you are talking about. I used one of those Paasche air brushes. But I only used it for the primer. The spray pattern I thought was too narrow for paintwork.
I used a small paint gun to spray the paint. They call it a touch-up gun. I also used the same gun to spray a clear coat and a blender. After that, I heated it with a infarad light because it cures the paint from the primer out and FAST. If you do this be careful you can MELT stuff and ruin the rest of the paint!!!!!! Then I wet sanded it with 2000 grit until it looked dull, rubbing compund, polishing compund, hand glaze it, wax it. Turned out very nice. Can't tell the difference. Sorry for being long winded, but to answer your question I wouldn't do it. Not that I couldn't be done. This is just my 2 cents. Good Luck!!!!!

I also have used an airbrush, but always seem to have a lot of overspray and it tends to spray too dry. On the other hand, get enough coats on the surface and you can wetsand it down. I just ended up doing what Bill does and got a cheap touch up gun from Harbor Freight that does a nice job.

how much paint will the gun require, I only have a 2 oz. bottle now, with thinner (I got a kit).

The gun itself doesn't matter how much you put in it. Well mine was a gravity feed type. So you'll spray your entire 2oz. For what it sounds like to me you should be able to get a couple of coats on it maybe. Depends how much is thinner. If you had 2oz of straight paint and then added thinner you could get a couple of nice coats on based on your area.
