Will a modern GT3 hold it's value?

Will a modern GT3 hold it's value? I am interested in knowing this because I know someone who was thinking of buying one? I don't know about the number built or there rareity.

There was a large demand at first and now look at how many are for sale all over the usa. I think a lot of people were expecting more visual bling for the extra $$ spent and a more comfortable ride. $ for $ the turbo is a better general enthusiast value- LOTSA hp, a lot more visual over the GT3. There is no denying the track potential of the GT3, but not that many people are into using the car that way

im not a pro at this, but I dont like the modern GT3 much, actually and dont hate me for it, I think the whole 996 series was a Porsche design flaw.... Im just not a big fan of the headlights, they should be round, like the new 997.

Yep! I will have to agree with Dave.
They are really fun to drive. IMO I would rather have the GT3 thou.
So I am hoping the bottom fall out on them.
Then I will get one cheep!

And I also like the 997 better.
To me it looks more like a slick 993.

and falling.... on a slightly off topic discussion; the new 997 based GT3 Cup is selling for about $130k, comes with a modicum of spares and is basically a hybrid of the 996 GT3 and a GT3RS under the new skin. Trouble is Porsche Motorsports has 300 Plus orders for less than 100 cars- way less than a 100 cars

I am with Don an this one, I hope the bottom falls out (doubtful) cus I really want one. If I was actually in that market, one would be in my garage right now.

I think that they will always be desireable cars probably along the lines of the 964RSA. Those w/ deep pockets will always go for the latest and greatest and the rest of us will go after the more desireable cars when the prices get to reasonable levels.

The more resonable the price the more hunters for that car.

Despite the design flaws of the 996 series versus the older ones, I think the GT3 - in some sense being the successor of the RS models of 73, 92 and 95 (and a few joining years) - will hold its own down the line.

There will always be enthusiasts willing to pay for special models like RS / GT3.

BTW IMO the RSA does not belong in that group.

Belong or not, they are doing considerably better than their more mundane sisters, they appear to have a cult following

I think the GT3 will always be a higher $$ car that will hold it's value VERY well due to the motor most of all I think as it's still based on the Leman winning GT1 motor.. the motor IMHO makes the car .. sure it's a looker but the motor is the heart of the beast.
I think it's a great car and will only maybe not in the next 10 - 20 years but it will start to climb up in price again.. it won't be the 73 RS of it time as they DO have a GT3RS to fill that spot .. but I think it will be the 911S of it's day.. and there for will start to climb back into the hearts of the P-car guy in due time..
but hey what do I know. so to sum it up .. I'd say BUY ONE! and hold onto it. but make sure it's a delete option car as I think it'll bring more in time..

Cars, even Porsches, are commodities decreasing in value. Who thinks to justify a purchase as investment, fools himself. (Of course, there may always be one exception to the rule.)

If you drive a brandnew car off the lot, you lose 2k instantly. If one intends to keep a car indefinitely, that's maybe not a big deal. When it comes to lifecycles of car it's best to buy in the mature stage. I expect good operating Porsche cars will likely hold 1/4-1/5 of their original purchase (new) price.

I agree with Erik on this one. I can add, If I had $80,000 laying around I'd snap one up in a heart beat.

I have a somewhat contrarian opinion.....

Just like the original 55 Speedsters..being nothing more than entry-level cars....and also the first run of '72 911 RS's.....both these cars weren't valued for "what they are" until many years later.

Meaning?...they'll likely depreciate for while....and after 5-10 years they will be recognized for what they truly are.....and will stay or climb thereafter.

What is the lease residual value after 36 or 48 months? 60% and 55% respectively (guessing)?

I can't wait a decade until they are "only" worth $45,000. I'm getting mine in YELLOW!
