Do It Yourself Or Pay A Pro?

Supertec has just finished the most recent project.

1970 911T

We can't take credit for how beautiful this car is but we can take credit for the engine.

Completely rebuilt 74 2.7 RS spec engine
90 mm x 70.4 8.5 to 1 comp. Mahle
Solex cams
36 mm ports
Original Zenith carbs rebuilt and rejetted for 2.7
Sachs Sport clutch
Sonic clean engine cooler
Custom built distributor
Install Carrera front cooler (customer supplied)
Under $9,000 before tax.
( He kept his original engine.)
Less than 30 days without his car and he went flying on the weekends instead of building an engine.

To top it off we'll be delivering the car from my shop in Fallbrook to him in Camarillo.
I'm not certain driving this cool little car 150 (miles) on a Sunday morning is doing him a favor.

Nice work as always Henry.
I may be dropping in on you in a few weeks, I have business in Rancho Santa Fe the first week of November and may have sometime to visit and explore the possibilities of my 79 SC 3 liter turbo engine build for my 914.

1970 911T?? What are they worth? Maybe 6-8K with a recent rebuild and a $4000 paint job??
That guys not only under water....he's on the bottom of the ocean!

6-8k ? Where did you get that figure ? Thats even far less then the mighty Bruce claims it to be worth . Lets put it this way. Going values of super clean 69-70 T cars is twice what a clean SC sells for (TURBO VERSIONS TOO) and its for good reason . That car is likely worth an easy $20k .

Please direct me to the $6-8k 911 Ts with recent engine rebuilds and fresh paint. I'll take 3. Thank you.

Henry, are you aware that with all the pics you've been posting over the last year you've turned me into a cad plating fiend? I've got another 100 lbs of stuff about ready to go to the plater downstairs under my bench...

Nice car, enjoy the ride!!!

Im not even going to post a picture of the dirty nasty looking engine (rebuilt in '86) from that ebay car in this thread. The reserve is not met at $7k and that car isnt 1/4 of the car as the '70 above.

What's wrong with that motor? Just because the shroud hasn't been painted or the fan powder coated.
Blingety bling bling. $200.

Nice work Henry. Looking at your incredibly clean, detailed work
makes me want to sign up for one of your sweet MFI 2.8SS motors.
I just may have to jump in front of Shawn on the 2.8SS build list.
I just need a car to put the motor in By the way the '74 twin plug
turbo is running strong and is just too fun!! Might be taking the turbo
to the dyno next week-keep you posted.

Must be a scwdp thing . This makes for much wasted typing . Whats killing me is you didnt think an offer like you got for your car was enough to sell it . I have 2 912`s that would surpass your cars value .

Looks like a great deal...and a fine example of a 70 T. It could sit in my garage any day. Some lucky guy will be very happy.

I completely agree.

All I had said is the guy is underwater for spending $9000 on the motor of a $9000 car.

But hey he isn't the only one. A guy a few days ago spent $9000 for paint and got orange peel!!!!!

Other than the personal pleasure of building the engine yourself...depending on what their time is worth, most folks would come out better gettting their Porsche engine rebuilt by a pro who already has the experience, tools, and can get the parts at a discount. I couldn't even get the parts and machine work done for my engine for what it cost me to have it completely rebuilt to my specs and installed in my car. If I was doing it myself...the car would still be apart in my garage....just like my AC and suspension projects.

Tsuter
Most of us don't consider our 911s an investment...and I would wager that...almost 100% of us are "underwater." I measure my investment in "smiles per gallon."

One of my customers just sold a 1970 911T Targa with low miles but a marginal repaint. The car was clean but no show car and the engine ran well but needed a rebuild because of a #8 main bearing leak.
The car sold to a happy buyer for $23,000. I think there just might be a misconception as to the true resale value of a clean pre 74 Porsche.

TAKE ANOTHER LOOK AT THIS LITTLE SILVER BEAUTY AND TELL ME WHERE I BUY ONE FOR $9000.
