Need to replace my windshield. Higher it done or DYI?

I think it is the rear windshield that is the one that is hard to install but it's been so long I can't remember.

Anyway, I messed up my windshield and need to replace it. Like the subject says,

Is this an easy DYI in y'alls opinon?

Lol, after working in a porsche shop... I only do it myself in emergencies, like when a race car has to be ready that day, and no one is available. Plus you cannot do it with only one person... you need a minimum of two people, and it's not entirely improbably that you'll brake the brand new windshield trying to put it in. I would just pay someone to do it, the installation isn't half as bad as the price of the glass.

I wouldn't do it. I don't know what's wrong with your windshield but when mine gets some chips or a good crack I call my insurance agent because it is covered under my comp. Then I take it to a good glass place and they waive my deducible. I had my windshield replaced for no extra out of pocket expense.

I've had my windsheild in and out of my car almost 6 times now, its not that hard. I think the hardest part would be transporting the new glass around without breaking it. Installing it should be a cinch.

They each have their own distinct set of circumstances that need to be considered. With the rear glass, it's the headliner and the lack of work space. The front has the curves that can snap the glass if you're not careful.

You may need a "Higher" source of help if you try it yourself, but I've done it and it's no picnic. Try a Targa glass by yourself. I and many ohters here have done that too. But they can keep that job.

piece of cake with a helper
some people (with long arms) can even do it themselves
really not that hard, once you've done it once
hardest thing is getting the trim in the rubber gasket before installing
try it once
never have even come close to breaking the glass
have done 4-5 windshields and 3 rear windows
good luck

I replaced mine by myself. the trick is to have 4" suction cups, I used two of them. I got em for around $5 eash at harbor freight.
They make it easier to handle the glass safely, and allow the glass to be pulled inwards a little while I pulled on the cord.
Getting it centered perfectly took two tries but the whole job took less than an hour to install the new screen. That was with a new OEM rubber seal BTW.
There was also a few hours spent taking the old glass out, cleaning everything, and transfering the moulding to the new seal etc.

$195.00 installed at my house. Parts, labor, tax. I couldn't pass it up.
