Stereo install help

Hi Everybody!!

I'm trying to install a new CD stereo in my 1989 911.. Didn't really work out as expected..

First of all, I managed to blow some fuse in the process, so now there's no ligt in the coupe..(I guess I'm just supposed to exchange a fuse..?)

Anyhow, I have managed to puzzle together the speaker wires w/o any problems, however, the power etc. is a little more tricky..

Here's what I have on the new stereo:

GND (BLACK)
PHONE (ORANGE)
DIMMER (PINK)
TO IGNITION (RED)
TO BATTERY+ (YELLOW)
PWR ANT (BLUE)
REMOTE ON (BLUE with white stripes)

What goes where?

I used to have an old blaupunkt installed..

Thanks a lot !!!

I hope you disconnected the battery as you're doing this.

Do you still have the original wiring harness? Crutchfield at one time had an adapter that plugs into the original wiring harness.

I'm afraid not, I have cut them all loose..

As long as I know what wire goes where I'm good to go..

Thanks!

Seems like you already have the answers? Maybe I don't understand the question?

red = constant power
Yellow = keyed switch (ignition)
black = ground

the rest you only use if you need them. When I did mine, also Blau, I just wired them up to the old connections after I cut off the old stereo. Worked like a charm.

FOR SURE disconnect the battery!!!

well.. those are the connections that I have on the new stereo (not blaupunkt).

I still don't know to which wires I should connect them since I have a few different wires in the car that doesn't have the same colors (can't remember what colors they are now..). .

One wire are brown...I think..

Thanks!

Brown wire is normally ground on a P-Car.

Disconnect the battery and connect one end of your multitester to the battery + cable. Turn the ignition key to run and you can tell what gets batt power by checking for continuity. Switch the tester to the neg batt cable, and test your wires again for continuity. Brown is usually ground, red usually power.

You can ignore the pwr antenna wire. Same with phone. Same with Remote On, unless you are wiring an amp. In that case, wire that to your amp Remote On lead. Terminate all unused wires properly.

Then again, if you left the battery connected while cutting wires I think you might be better served taking Jason's advice.

Some PORSCHE either came with power antenna or amplified antenna, in either case you need to hook up the power antenna wire.

I have the adapter from Crutchfield if you need it. I was able to install my stereo without it because I already had an aftermarket unit installed that was being replaced.

Hi Ruf.

I could be mistaken, but I thought the pwr antenna wire on the Blaupunkts is intended to drive an extending/collapsing antenna, not the signal amplification. Could be wrong tho. I did not connect it on my 993 install of an Alaska and I got signal fine.

The antenna can drive either one. Sometime people use that wire to power up an external amp.

I had the shop where I bought my Blaupunkt CD player install it. They did an excellent job in about 1 hour. The extra charge was only about $25.
