Its reading threads like this that made me take out the 1 bar spring and put it back to stock... Even retarded the timing a slight bit. It just ain't worth it....

It IS a scary proposition to rebuild a turbo motor. The case may be 30 years old and the parts prices are going out of sight. One thing John did not mension (directly) was the NUMBER of parts. When I disassembled my 3.3L I could swear there are twice as many parts as my 3.0L SC engine had. The CIS and Exhaust system alone have a gazillion parts.

I'm afraid it soon won't be worth rebuilding these engines. A few more years and all the available parts will be for restorations and vintage show cars. I don't know of anyone producing new cases. The old cases are going to start showing heat and age problems.

Hot rod rebuilding is an order of magnitude more expensive. I paid $500 four years ago for a set of ARP head studs. I am ashamed of how much was spent on the engine. Mike is right about the cost, pure foolishness.

I'm so glad I swapped my 930 for a M491TL. I like how much more simple it is, when u open the decklid of the 930 u can barely see the motor yet alone getting to it. I'm over my purist phase, every time I remove something to simplify it, it drives soooo much better than a standard heavy ladden lux optioned 3.2's

Hey Jeff,
I know it's been a long time since this posting but by any chance Might you still have that 930/52 turbo motor? If it has been sold any chance that you have info on where and who it was sold to ? Maybe you can check to see if motor might still be sitting around and never used. I'm in the process of restoring my car back to original after the previous owner blew his motor up in Colorado and put in a Chevy v8 via a renegade conversion.

Thanks

Still Have the core?

Russ,

Do you still have the blown up motor core or can you get it at a reasonable price?

I am unsure of its fate or whereabouts- Ill have to look in on it.

12 years later, unfortunately, the costs have gone way, way up!
