Carrera Script Peeling
Hello guys,
Has anyone had experience with there Carrera side script decal peeling? Mine has been peeling or pulling up were the letters come to a sharp point. Mostly happens when I wash the car. I have ad multiple sets of these decals put on the car both wet with soapy water and dry. The paint was cleaned real well with isoproplene. The vinyl was 3m 7 year 2mil. Any suggestions, because I am about to put a new set on. ![]() ![]()

Wandered off somewhere...

I have the same problem with mine. I took some ordinary rubber cement and with a Q tip carefully re-glued those points. Any excess will rub off when dry. I still have to be careful when I wash the car, however.

I would cut mine back with an exacto knife.

Never had the problem....I use a soft bondo style spreader on application and don't futz with them for at least two weeks.

I put them on dry with same bondo spreader.
Do you think it's better to have thick or thin vinyl? Mike, sent you a pm.

Any adhesive you apply after applying the graphics could discolor your paint or take the paint with it upon removal. Be careful when washing especially around the pointed bits. If the vinyl lifts over time, replace it - vinyl is cheap paint, your paint is not.
When applying, the best way is to use a mixture of water and alcohol in a cool shady spot, preferably in your garage. A clean surface is essential to good adhesion. I own a sign shop and we have done hundreds of vehicles with the occassional return because the customer was a little enthusiastic while washing. On the pointy and narrow bits there just isn't that much glue to hold the vinyl in place. Over time, lifting in these places is inevitable no matter what grade of vinyl is used. If you buy your graphics locally you might want to ask for a few extra pieces of the graphics that tend to lift and replace only what is needed or ask for an extra swatch to cut to size/shape with an exacto knife.

What is the best quality vynil you can use for this decal, 3M, Avery? Is it better to have thicker or thin stock?

Avery, 3M, MACTAC and LG are all very close in quality. A 5 year vinyl is virtually indistinguishable from a 7 year vinyl and IMO doesn't justify the cost. Thinner vinyl is so called "high performance" vinyl and will adhere better especially if the pieces are small and thin. The lower the profile of the vinyl, the less likely it is to catch on something. It is also lighter weight and easier for the glue to keep down.
