Are RS rear flares the same size as...
the 1978 through 1986 911 SC and Carrera car rear flares from a non-turbo car? I am in need of flares to build RS look rear quarters on a 69 911.

all rear rear flares are the same from 78 to 86 yes. The 87-89 Carrera flares have other torsion bar holes. Hope this helps

The shape of the fender lip is slightly different with RS flares, but both SC/Carrera and RS flares allow the same size rear wheels. Many RS clones are made with used SC/Carrera flares, although new RS flares are available.

Dutchie - just a double check on my part since I'm from the south and a little slow, if I read your reply correctly, you have stated that the 78 to 86 non-turbo porsche car rear fender flares are the exact same size as an after-market RS steel flare kit would be.. Am I correct?

Jack - are there any advantages/disadvantages of using original sectioned flares from an sc/carrera vs. buying the aftermarket flare kit?
I can get a pair of rear sectioned flares from an sc for $300 plus shipping. What size are your cars rear and front flares? Finally, do you have an techincal specs, measurements, articles, etc., that explains the front and rear flare assembly processes you went through on your car? |

No! The SC or Carrera are NOT the same as the real OEM RS ones.
As Jack said there is slight a difference. You can use the SC size. That is what most guy do anyway, and it looks OK.

Which is better, aftermarket kit flares or sectioned real flares for matching the 69 - 73 original rear bumper sides after they have been modified?

I would think that new would be better and cheaper. Used sheet metal needs to be stripped of old pain unless you want an extra few coats of pain under your color and the edges needed to be prepped after somehow being "cut" off. Start with clean tin IMHO.

I appreciate the great feedback from everyone.
Here's the delimna that I need feedback on.... Do I save $350 dollars on the flares by buying sectioned sc flares from a nice parts car or is it more advantageous to the assembly process to just spend the extra cash and buy the aftermarket kit? I plan to modify the rear bumper pieces to match the flare contours. |

buy the sc flares and spend the money on something else. it's a difference no one will notice, and what does it matter unless you are doing an *exact* RS replica?--your car won't look just like an RS anyway, so why waste money on this trivial distinction?
