3.2 turbo conversion-first start up
 

this has taken quite a while to convert this car to turbo. l refuse to compromise....do you think that has anything to do with the continual hiccups? Anyhow l started with the idea of using 3.3 turbo parts and ended up using all top shelf and custom parts.l`ve spent about $4000.00,maybe $4500.00 but that includes the wideband system and extra guages.l shopped well and could have done it a lot cheaper but my system is one of the best l`ve seen for a cobbed together DIY`er. Anyhow after over a year of work l started the beast.Two days of diagnostics took care of various electrical gremlins and settings and l now have a perfect start-up and idle.l`m using a Proto stage one chip,that`s all l got from them.l`ll keep you all posted on this in a couple of weeks.Mexico amigos,it`s November. l hope l can help other 3.2 owners thinking of turbo power because it`s not that hard......l haven`t driven the car yet though....

This is something I'd love to do with my 3.2 at some point in the distant future, if I can ever afford it! The only thing which really worries me about the whole exercise (apart from the cost of parts or blowing my engine up) is the cost of the insurance - I would imagine turbo charging would send my insurance premiums through the roof!

If so I have just got insurance for my 3.2 soon to be 3.6 for £315, limited to 8000m p/a and they dotn care what I change on it.

They are a decent classic car insurers that dont seem to be bothered about engine mods

I'm very interested to hear that your insurance company has an okay attitude towards engine mods. At the moment I have a classic policy with RH Classics, who insure me very competitively at only £168.50. The problem is that being a classic policy I rather expect that any modifications to my car would invalidate it. I had visions of needing specialist modified car insurance if I even so much as changed the exhaust, which would be inhibitively expensive! Your policy costing £315 sounds great if they allow engine mods. Who are you with?

So when are you going to whack the 3.6 into your Carerra? I'd love to hear what a difference it makes to how your car drives. It would beef up the bottom end a lot, no doubt, which I where I feel my own car is lacking most.

well isnt that funny - the company IS RH Classic cars!!!!

Just give them a bell and tell them what you are thinking of doing - the details of mine having a 3.6 appears on my policy and is classed as "modified". They were a good for hundred cheaper then anywhere else I tried.

The conversion is going well and I recive the final conversion parts from the Timmins on teh 18th so I will be busy man after that.

I have prepped the engine as much as I can (1995 993 with 45k miles) and I have sold my old engine so its just the last few bits left to do then I will be rocking!

That's great news - I'll give them a call sometime. I was planning on making a couple of small modifications to the car like a better exhaust and a chip etc, but now I'm wondering whether I should wait and save my money to see if I can find a spare 3.6 engine for sale somewhere! Assuming my 915 'box could take it. But realistically for me such a project would be a long way off (financial reasons) although I'd love to hear how your project goes. I wonder what its performance will be like once you've got it together? Please keep me informed of progress if you can!? Thanks.
