Carrera Brakes pin clips - needed?

Just changed the pads on my 84 and found there were no retention clips on the rear pins.

Is this a safety issue as the pins go in and out more and get looser?

Do I need to buy some and fit them?

Thanks yet again!
Sam

Don't know FOR SURE, but if it were me, I'd get them.

The pins on mine had to be driven out with a punch, but still.......

To be on the safe side, I would install the retainer clips. For $13.00 from our host you can get the whole kit including new pins and retainer clips for the rear. I have been advise to replace the rention clips and pins everytime I replace my pads. Hope this helps.

If these are like the SC pins and clips, it's not just being on the safe side, it's REQUIRED. The rear pins don't have a spring collar to pound in and hold, so they are not safe without clips like the fronts are. I bet the carreras are just like the SCs.

The Carrera "wide M" rear calipers do not use pins with retainer clips. The pins only have the spring collars as Andy mentioned.

Porsche stopped using the pins with clips after the 83 SC. All 84-89 Carrera calipers have pins with spring collars.

I imagine the switch was made to eliminate the potential of losing the clips? I actually like the clip method better. Easier to replace a lost clip by going to the local hardware store for one, than it is to replace a pin with a broken spring collar or one that stops "springing"

Here some pics

Spring collar

No pin hole
