Electric exhaust cutouts.

I saw this thing being used on some muscle cars and wondered if it would be feasible, reasonable or just fun on a porsche. It may be difficult to find enough room for two of these and may require some expensive exhaust mods to install. I guess the question is, how much HP per dollar will you gain and is it worth it. Its hard to imagine that someone like Jack Olson wouldn't enjoy a blast up the canyon or a late night run down the 405 and just being able to flip a switch and go to wide open headers and the extra HP you could gain. I have no interest in this co. We had something like this in the old days but it was cable operated and soon fell apart due to the heat and rust but when it worked it was really cool. Look at the link to check it out.

My experience with these is that the motors fail after a while due to heat (few months). One of them even had a warped sealing plate but supposedly the material used for those has been improved.

Unless the motors ability to take heat has been improved drastically, I'd say they are a little pricey for the lifespan.

That was one of my concerns, about the heat especially since this would be mounted so close to the exhaust ports unlike on a chev where it would be several feet down the pipe where it might be a little cooler.
But what about the HP gains, anybody care to guess.

I took a look at a manual version of those before. I even bought one.

But I wasn't looking for the classic exhaust cut out that drag racers use. I was looking for a way to more-easily cap/uncap my second exhaust outlet. The one I bought was much too heavy, though.

I don't think a well-tuned exhaust is going to offer all that much additional horsepower by bypassing the muffler -- and you'd need two of those for most good exhausts. Has anyone tried deleting the muffler on the dyno?

Porsche has "sound valves" as an option on the Water Cooled cars.

This photo is of the Rt side outlet on a 9ff exhaust system offered for the 996 turbo.

It operates by a switch located on the driver's door sill & opens vacuum valves on L & R exh outlets.

No idea if it makes more power, but it sure sounds good when you hit the switch.

I have more photos if anyone is interested.
