Porsche Crest Fabspeed Catbypass/exhaust

Thinking about the Fabspeed Catbypass and/or their single oulet system. Anybody have any experience with their products.
If I do the catbypass only will I have to do any chabges with the injecton? The bypass come swith spot to place the O2 sensor, any info pro or con would be great.

Lol, I actually know a fellow RSA owner who lost 10hp with the fabspeed catbypass for his car. Seriously, he already had the 2ndary muffler bypassed. He dynoed it (2 pulls), installed the cat bypass, redynoed (4 pulls) and lost an average of 10hp!!!, then put the stock cat back on and got it all back!!! I think that's something specific to 964s, and a backpressure issue, but still... I'm not a fan of any company that sells exhaust systems that the end user has to finish cutting and welding themselves.

I've got the Fabspeed dual on my 930. More HP (much less backpressure), and it fit perfectly (no cutting or welding). I'm a happy customer.

Not saying everything Fabspeed makes is perfect, but their 930 exhaust is pretty darn good.

I'm very happy with the Fabspeed pre-muffler on my '88 Carrera.
Slightly throatier sound, and much lighter. No dyno results to verify HP change, if any.

Remember that anytime you make a change on a car with EFI you really need to change the chip to take advantage of it.

I would be surprised if you could make that large of a scavenging change in a well optimized motor without hurting the output, before you change the chip.

It doesn't mean that lower backpressure is always better. (maybe on a turbo!) It is possible to over extract the exhaust with the given cam timing. I think it is doubtful with any type of streetable muffler on the car though.

I installed the Fabspeed euro pre-muf and maxflo sport exhaust on my stock 84 3.2 and I freakin love it! Bolted right on with no cutting or welding and the sound is awsome. Pricey but worht it.

Anytime changing exhaust on a dme car or the likes it is absoultly essential to remap without doubt. I can't say I have ever heard anything bad about fabspeed

I put on a fresh air intake and put on a borla exhaust and was going to put on a CAT bypass pipe. Then in the springtime get a SW chip. Then decided against the CAT bypass cause I did a search and most people say there was no difference or they lost HP. Why spend the money if there isn't a change or a change for the worse. My fresh air intake was a waste of money. This winter I'll put the OEM air filter back on. The borla exhaust at least makes the car sound really SWEEEEEEET!!!

BTW here in Michigan we don't have smog testing or anything like that. But a muffler shop WILL NOT work on your muffler system without a CAT on it.

I put one on my 87 and love it. It had a great fit and I did pick up some power due to the fact that my cat was plugged because of bad valve guides and big oil consumption. I also upgraded the muffler to a Dansk, and a S Wong chip. All three of these upgrades made a very noticeable difference in the useable performance of the engine. Some say the SSI upgrade only gives a slight gain over this setup and is much more expensive.

Fabspeed had a batch of bad premufflers a couple of years ago; the flanges were welded on crooked and there was no way to get them to fit. That's not so much a problem, as any company can experience production glitches. The problem was Fabspeed's customer service - it took almost a month to get them to acknowledge there was a problem, and then another month to agree to do anything about it. Absolutely the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Based on that I would never do business with them again. But others have obviously had better results. I (and others) ended up going with the Dansk premuffler (available from Pelican) and I don't think there's much difference in sound.

I have to say that I'm one of the lucky ones to have the pre muffler
no fit problem. Fabspeed customer service is non existant. It is a
fantastic looking and sounding system, I have the Euro Premuf
with the dual out muffler. I got NO help dealing with Fabspeed
and wound up having to pay major bucks to get it fixed locally.
I had a muffler support strap break also, that I am going to have
fixed locally. I have paid as much in repairing Fabspeeds
errors as I paid for their products ! I do love the way they sound
I just wish I had less money in it.
Good Luck
Chuck

Bill,
I have the Fabspeed cat bypass and SS sport 1 in, 2 out muffler. I strongly recommend a Steve Wong chip to go with this setup.
When ordering your chip, let Steve know your setup and the number of pins on your current chip. Go to www.911chips.com
Cheers,

Yeah I'm a slacker, I keep meaning to do that. I will prolby take a look at the pins tonight and order tomorrow. I wont have the chip in time for the install (fabspeed box arrived today) but it will be interesting to see how it "feels" sans chip and just the new exhaust.

Then I should get the chip next week and get a good taste of what it can do.

Thanks,

Bill

BTW I had to open the box and peak...it's freakin gorgeous!

A heavy batsard however at about 45-47 lbs. That's the whole shebang in the box, cat-bypass, muffler, tip, pipe, hangers, gaskets, and packing.

I will place my Wong Chip order through Pelican while I am at it.
