Battery question

Battery(ies) seem to be done. Don't know when they were last replaced. What type of batteries do you guys use, and where to buy? '70T.

You will get lots of opinions but in my mind the Optima or Odessey are the way to go. They do not have acid in them so they can be mounted in a variety of ways and you don't have to worry about acid spills/corrosion. I personally went with the Optima based mainly on they were available locally but the Odessey is much lighter in weight but not as powerful.

Err.. more accurately, both batteries are sealed thus the acid stays inside where it performs a positive service to your car, as opposed to venting to atmosphere and eating up the sheet metal.

BTW, Costco sells the Optima for a C note.

Interstate is what I use. Having replace my battery recently with the MTP-93.

The previous Interstate was a 60 month and it lasted 84 months before the cca's decided to go south.

I am dealing with battery problems too, on a 72 911 T. I have been doing a lot of research and this is what I have come up with. Interstate has or had a battery (911U) that was a direct replacement. They can't get it anymore. Performance Products has direct replacements ($100ea.), they are shipped dry and need to have the acid added. This is good and bad, good because you know the life of the battery, fresher, bad because you have to add the acid. This is based purely on what I was told. There is also a German company called Sonneschein that makes a direct replacement that is a dri-fit or gel cell battery (model DF75) available from batterysalesusa.com for $129.30 each. I have also read that Batteries Plus can also get them. Mazda Miata batteries have also been used because thay have a small footprint, the ones that I have personally seen are just about a quarter of an inch too tall to fit in the battery box. Optima as stated above is available in a lot of places and will run about $110-$140 depending on which model you go with, and they indeed can be mounted in any position. Now the only problem with that is the weight distribution of having two batteries strategically placed to help with handling, you will most likely want to weight the oposite side. I have even considered altering the battery box to accomodate a battery that is slightly taller, a 26 group size would fit and runs about $35 for Diehards. Most likely, I will go the Optima route for convenience factor and I am not real sure about this but it seems like they may be a little better for the environment. I just have to figure out what to do with the second battery connection. I wouldn't want to remove it altogether in case I want to return it to the two battery set-up. Hope that helps a bit. You might consider the Odyssey 925 dry cell. It's very compact and was easy to fit in my '72 battery boxes.
