UK 3.6 conversion stage two (help please)

I'm in the process of doing a 3.6 conversion and need a bit of advice on a few points. Heres the link to stage one click here

I ended up with the kit from Timmins which I'm very happy with. I'm close to fitting the engine but just waiting for the last few bits and bobs to get it finnished, heres what the engine is looking like:

I have almost done all the wiring and chassis prep and should be good for a first fit this weekend however I do have a couple of questions:

When I seperated my gearbox & engine I noticed a small amount of seapeage from the gearbox main seal, not a huge amount it was just damp. I have read these are a bugger to get out(I had anough of a wrestle with the crank main seal) and I was wondering if I should leave it and do it next time the engine is out or bite the bullet and try to do it now? (I think I know the answer but hope someone might say they all weep)

I also had to buy the non-case drilling G50 clutch lever update jobby and fitted it to my existing fork:

I have read about this and there seems to be conflicting advice on whether it needs lube of not:

"I used the one above with high temp silicone grease as a lube"

"When you go to the weltmiester that has the bronze bushings, I don,t think that you have to lube anything"

Can anyone shed any light on this?

I think thats all for now - more updates & pics later this week I hope

PS - forgot to ask if anyone had a pic(s) of their power steering sheetmetal blockoff - I have the template from timmins but it doesnt seem to fit my setup & I wanted to see what others had done

Nice bill, thanks for that

It was the sheet metal block-off I was interested in and yrs shows a different method to the template in the timmins kit although that does look like a timmins finger point! (appologies if its your hand!)

I guess the idea is to just seperate the top & bottom of the engine as best you can against the rubbers in the engine bay?

Just goes to show there is always more than 1 way to skin a cat!

That's a Timmins finger, pointing at his handywork.

The only thing I keep thinking about doing differently is the oil line that runs past the oil filter, I think Aeroquip running over the top might make changing that filter somewhat easier. W/ that config it is a royal PIA.

hehe, I think it was the style of the point more then the actual had that gave him away!

I have not fitted the oil pipe (already have it though) so will look at clearance when I do so & maybe make my life easier in the future - thanks for the heads up.

What do you say on the cross-shaft lube question & gearbox main seal, have you had any experiance of these areas?

no experience w/ the cross shaft, I did have the trans seal replaced each time the trans has been out, but didn't do the work myself.

Hi

Can't help with your questions but nice work. It's nice to see your progress.

I've been too busy with work but hoping to make a start in January.

Good luck and keep us posted

Regards
Derek

Hey derek, thanks for droppin in.

Its been a slow process but thats been more my fault then anything else - I'm a ditherer and like to take my time with stuff!

The kit from Timmins was spot on - missing a few bolts etc but cant really complain about that since Steve has been more than accomodating of my crap questions & provided excellent tech support.

Not long to go now - I just hope I didnt buy a duff engine!

More help needed....

I have been out doing some more today & I realised that i have a few holes/vents with nothing attched to them & I also need to find the right feed for the brake booster - I guess the previous owner of the engine needed these for his transplant. Heres the holes - what goes where?

1. this is on the intake and is part of the pipe that goes to the ISV
2. this seems to be on the bottom of the throttle body - cant see if it is even a hole, does it do anything?
3. this is on the back of the intake stack - whats it go to?

4. on the top of the main intake pointing sideways
5. on the top of the main intake pointing up

Any tips/clues on the holes above greatly appreciated.

I guess one of them will feed the brake booster via the console at the rear of the intake that has the electrical connections on - does someone have a part number for this?

Thanks again in advance for any help
