strange heater problem - jammed on

I've had a search through the forums and got under the back of the car to make sure the little vent valve things are functioning ok & gave them a blast of lube to keep things working merrily. The problem is that I'm still getting heat through to my drivers side (passenger side for you yanks) when the centre heat control is off & the auto lever all the way down. I've checked to ensure the vent valve thingy is fully open & it is. I'm stumped.

I think that you want them closed... so as to prevent the heat from entering... I may be 180 degrees off, as is often the case.
IF they are closed there is a seal of sorts in there that may be allowing some heat to enter... another few weeks and it wont matter till spring.. haha..

Can someone explain (slowly) where I can find the flapper boxes? I haven't looked hard (Yet) but I plan to do so tonight.

1. I can locate the exchangers.
2. I can locate the hoses coming UP from the exchangers.

Are the flapper boxes at the end of the hoses?

I'm not afraid to admit when I'm lost....

Ok - I'll have to get under and have another look. I thought the vents under the rear wheel arch area acted as a purge type of thing, dumping the hot air from the heat exchangers out until you turned on the heater, which then slowly closed the vents.

Waiting for winter is fine except it's nine months away for me :)
All was working fine last summer but after using it all winter it just appears the car likes to have the heater on - bldy german car ;)

And my problem is the opposite -- I have no heat. And it's getting cold.

Hi,

On my early car they are bolted to the tub if you will. If you are looking from underneath they are tucked up in each front corner.. just forward of the rear shock area..

If you put your hand on the heat exchangers and mover forwards towards the cabin of the car you should come across the flapper boxes. I did it by positioning myself under the car, behind the rear wheel and reaching down towards the front along the line of the heat exchangers. I find my driver side easier to find than the passenger side, where I could only find the control wire & had to trace back.
