Billet Sump Plate Advice?

I was contemplating replacing my old non-drain plug sump plate with a new billet aluminum one from our host. It does appear that the studs in the case will have to be replaced. Have any of you completing this upgrade had any difficulties with the removal of the existing studs? My fear is to have one or more of them break off in the case. Thanks Darryl

Darryl,

Have you thought about using a 1983 SC sump plate, either from Pelican as new, or a used one from some other source.

Much cheaper than your billet ones, and they hold the oil in the sump just as well. And no one sees them but you, and your intimates.

I did this on my 83SC and had no problems with the studs. I think because there's generally oil residue in the area the studs are not seized into the case at least that was the case with mine. It's a nice appearance item and the fins may cool a little bit better.

I've got one of the billet plates from PP on my 930 engine. I think it is made my Mainely by Design. It's a very nice piece. No problem with the stud replacement. Just double-nut the old ones and ease them out.

I used one on the last motor I built. It's a nice piece.
