Do SCs kill batteries like 964s and 993s?

Just bought my first SC. My other 911s : 964, 993 and 997 all killed my battery within 10 months so I just disconnected the battery between uses. Problem solved. I never cared for battery tenders. Do SCs also kill batteries as well? Because I’ll disconnect the battery on my SC if I need to between drives. Thanks.

the early SCs - at least mine - 1980 SC Euro spec - the only electrical component to operate with the key off - out - is the clock. I have no computer - components talking to each other in my absence. But if you are going to leave it dormant for 2+ months - disconnect neg term../ just my opinion

mine is a 79, let's call it identical, no issues either.
and since I don't even have a radio my little 45Ah VARTA battery (9,8kg) does a perfect job. 2 years now.

What's wrong with a battery tender?

I have a Noco on mine. It keeps the batteries topped up which prolongs their life and makes it crank fast for quick starts after hibernation.

I've owned my '83 for 20 years as of this May. I've bought 2 batteries - don't recall how long the "original" battery lasted that was with the car when I bought it.

SC Battery

I just replaced my ‘82 SC battery after 10 years (and I don’t know how old it was). I replaced my original 2005 e46 M3 battery in 2019.

I use a tender with quick connections, very easy to use, and I do believe it adds years to the battery life.

My clock will drain my battery to a point that the car won't start in about 4 months without a tender. It will turn over briefly but that's it until I charge the battery. QAD tender has solved that issue and made for a Spring smile when I can just get in and take that first drive with no mucking about.

If you hook an ammeter into the system with the ignition off, you can see the clock tick - the solenoid pulling the spring tight again. Not much current, though.

Still, batteries self discharge, so a tender is a good idea, and probably better than a disconnect.

Porsche made battery-killing cars? Hmmm. Maybe an electrical, charging, storage or voodoo issue.

My 1979 SC's Bosch brand battery lasted about 12 years. No battery tender/charging system, it was just there when I needed it.

I replaced it with the correct sized battery from Supercheap Auto and it died 8 months later. They got a bit snarly when I pointed out to them it had a three year guarantee and please replace it. Haha, after a few kind words on my part they replaced it.
