You'll need to strip the paint first, then the anodizing. For the anodizing use Easy Off oven cleaner (yellow can, make sure it has Lye in it). Spray it on the wheels, let it set for a while and wipe it off with steel wool and a clean rag.

That should get you to bare aluminum, although you might need to wet sand the aluminum a bit to get it ready for polishing.

Polishing fuchs is an exercise in patience, it will take a lot of time. There should be a few threads on the topic if you click on the search box in the upper right corner of the screen and search polishing. Good luck!

fyi - the PO of my car had full polished Fuchs.. they did not look good to me at all so I went to black painted centers with polished lips.. I had Wheel Techniques in San Jose do it... IMHO they did a good job... 5 years ago or so and they still look great.. but you need to tend to them. The Mothers Billet polish in a small jar is the best I've found to date. SimiChrome is also good... then cover with a wax.

John,

Trust me dont waste your time doing it yourself, you'll go insane propoerly removing the anodize - this is how you do it

If your wheels have signifigant stone chips, (particulalry front opposite drivers side) which is normal-

1) Get the outers lathed
2) Get get them polished
3) Get them readonised

If you want to stay with the original look use VHT Polyurethane wheel paint -Satin Black - available in a spray can - exceptionally tough and looks fantastic, very original look.

.......Trust me there is no other way

I suggest that you don't have the wheels chromed, not that you could do that yourself.

There IS other ways. If you want to throw a boatload of money and have someone else do them,(other then Al Reed who is reasonable), you can do them yourselves with some time, effort, and $20 worth of supplies.

These where done by yours truely. Polishing Fuchs or Fuch refinishing has to be one of the most often asked posts here. I do understand that the search feature can be poor. It seems when they changed the BBS system a few years ago, it never was as good as before. With the right keywords, you should be about to pull up many, many, post. Good luck.
