AC Problem

Good mornning everyone. My question is, why my new sanden compressor will not start. I think the problem lies in a relay. I've checked the fuses their good, the evap.motor works, by the way this is on an 82 sc. the front condenser blower works when I by-pass the factory wiring. So turning the switch on in the car gets the evap. blower motor and that's all. Any ideas? One test i did was removed the red wire on the relay inside the evap compartment resulting in no power to the evap. motor, yet the relay was reading 12v at the relay terminal. I'm not giving up but any advice?

Do you have a high / low pressure switch? Could be low on Freon.

I just fixed the ac on my 82 SC, I removed it all except for the evap box and fan(evap was removed from box) The whole mess was 68lbs.

On to your question do you have 12 volts at the compressor conector when you turn it on? Could be a bad high or low pressure switch or the relay or a bad sensor in the evap box thinking it's cold already. Do you have the temp control to the coldest setting? Do your windows work?

I had a probem with the fan switch/on-off. Trouble shooting starts at the compressor with a voltmeter. Car on, 12 Volt at the compressor is good. If not, go to the switch on th console. You should have 12 volt in on one of the wires and out on the wire associated with the switch setting. Be sure to check your temperature control knob, if it has power in and not out that is bad (if it is all the way on). The Bentley has a good wiring diagram that helps.

Check the relay that is located in the smuggler box. Rack Shack has a relay that is for automotive 12v and will even fit the PORSCHE wiring harness with no mod.
