Wheel alignment in O C

Any suggestions would be appreciated on an alignment shop in Orange County, Ca.

I've gone thru my rear tires in about a year & I had front & back aligned when the tires were new. Bummer.

What kind of tires are you running and how many miles did you have on them? These cars kill back tires faster than fronts, especially soft ones.
I have around 4k miles out of my back yoko AVS intermediatesand they are almost worn out, but those were hard miles with some track time.

I know people who have had alignments done at Hergesheimer's in south OC and they did a good job, but just like any place get a written price before they start.
I had my last two Porches aligned at Accurate alignment in Orange on Batavia, sorta near anaheim stadium.
They don't do corner balancing, just alignment.
Last time they did the 911 it was $125 which was a little high at the time, and I heard they raised their prices since then. I wouldn't pay much more for that just for an alignment.

For a complete corner balance and alignment I would prolly make the trip to Torrance.

That's Johnson's Alignment's fomer employee. Damn, I can't think of it either. He is typically 2 weeks out on appointments. That says something, I guess. I never made it over there.

I agree with Sam in that unles you see uneven wear, you may not have an alignment problem, just a heavy foot. However, if the tires aren't worn square and smooth, it might be time for some new settings.

In RSR (Riverside Region) There's Bud's Tire and Wheel, on Indiana in Riverside, 951-351-1319. Manny Bautista is a Porsche allignment specialist that advertises in "Unsere Gadanken" RSR's monthly PCA publication.

I'll second Hergesheimer up in Lake Forest. I use them and they do an excellent job on a laser alignment rack. One of their senior mechanics, Jim, does most of the alignments and he ranks right up there with the best of them as far as I'm concerned.

I'd call them and check out their operation. They are super friendly and will walk you through the shop.

As for your rear wear - listen to Milt and Sam. They know what they are talking about. Personally, I just replaced my completely worn out rear SO-3's and yet my fronts still have maybe 1/2 their life left. I'm guessing you'll go through rears about twice as fast as fronts.

Thanks guys, Hergesheimer did my PPI a couple of years ago, great shop & people.

I have Yoko AVS ES100's, 7&8's with 12,000 miles. Got them last February. I was wrong, the fronts are wearing there's about an inch of bald on the inside of the front tires & about 2 inches of bald on the inside of the rears. I don't take it particularly easy on the street but no track time yet.

I used a shop recommended in Garden Grove and remember the guy telling me they were aligned to spec but it didn't look right & said he was reluctant to do it by eye. What ever that means. I told him to do it according to specs.

I also get a fair vibration in my steering wheel at 80 mph.

What is corner balancing?
I'm also noticing viberation in the steering wheel at 80 mph.

I guess I should replace them before it starts raining, was hoping to get more milage on them.

Use "corner+balance" as a search and settle back in your chair. More than we can tell you in a single post. Very briefly, the front wheels weigh the same with the driver in the car and a half tank of gas. So do the rears. Then there's diagonal percentages and on and on......

The vibration is out of balance, out or round (OOR), or just the worn and cupped tires. Get the tires first and drive on them for 100- 300 miles. Drive at 80; above and below and check the wheel for vibration with the new tires. If they vibrate, something needs to be done.

It could be a bent wheel (not likely a tire shop would install a tire on that), an OOR wheel (they don't always look or don't care), or an OOR tire which can be worked with or exchanged. There's a lot more on that subject too.

If the car is CB'd, aligned correctly and the wheels/tires are perfectly round and balanced, they should wear square and smooth until the cord shows. And, you should actually get more miles out of a set.

Track use and more negative camber is a performance mod and both sacrifice longevity.
