911 R headers
Hi all,
project is moving along.. still getting the undercoat etc off. I see now why some choose to media blast or strip. haha.. I was wanting to see if you all know anyone that is building replica R headers/exhausts ??? thanks.. here is the latest pic from yesterday. we have had family over this past week and weekend so the work slowed. hoping to be ready for paint in a week or so. david ![]() ![]() |

You can just strip the sheetmetal surrounds off of a set of early heat exchangers and sandblast and coat them and have a nice set of "factory" 1-1/2" headers. A stock muffler with the "Up-Fixing" 2-out conversion makes a great complement to this, or you can get an aftermarket sport exhaust. I have an extra set of headers if you need them. TT

Hi Tom,
Thanks. Yes I had seen some posts on adding the extra outlet. I have a Bursch 2 in 1 out muffler. Not ready to do anything yet, probably in Jan as the car gets finished but when you get a chance could you email me a pic and price on your headers. Thanks. dbrunson@numail.org

I've had these headers since the 70's, never used them and I'm not sure what they were made for. I assume they were for a megaphone system...

Tom,
how do those compare to your pair?? I was hoping to be able to use the headers and have the option of swapping out between a set of the stingers and my bursch 2 in 1 out.. no time to work on her today, real work has been rough this week.. off til sat after today so will be able to get closer to paint.. I cant wait to get that done, then the fun starts.. Getting to order all the goodies.. haha.. david

The removeable "S" pipe section on the "shorties" allows you to shorten the exhaust system to use the longer megaphones, with the added complication of two more flanges (and associated bolts and gaskets.) You need a custom hanger setup fabricated in either case, to support the non-stock mufflers/megaphones or straight pipes, and you can switch back and forth. TT
