It must have cost a pretty penny.

This was my first full involvement in an engine rebuild.

It took around 6 months.

Tom Amon was the builder. I did all the prep, sourcing, painting etc.

Not sure I will ever take on this gargantuan task again.

My goal was to learn the Porsche 911 engine building process, which my respects go out to the engine builders! I have learned every aspect of pre-89 911's within the past 2 years. Not that I can perform the task, just understand the complete process.

I wanted longevity in this motor with a few perks.

So time: 6 months

Cost: $8500 w/labor

Jason,
$8500 plus labor or including labor? I bet you spent a LOT of time calling, emailing, driving, etc chasing parts and supplies and dropping off/picking up machining. If all that is included that probably qualifies as a HELL of a deal for a fully rebuilt Turbo motor. Seems like when we read of Turbo's being rebuilt we are typically talking a $10,000 starting point...or am I way off?

Very nice work! You are an inspiration to me (all but the 6 months part). I'm at the 2 month point and hoping for 3 or 4 months. Let us know how it breaks in!

I thought I recognized Mr. Amon's arm in the shot

Tom is THE man!

Congrats!

Dan,

Including labor with new parts.

Very time consuming, however I am happy with the payoff.

I will update when I am at the 1k mark.

That could take another 6 months with my schedule.

Thank you Pelicans!

Hey Jason,

I hope the dash I'm getting from you helps in a small way. Anyway, I always wanted to see more of the car than the backround shots I get on Ebay. Enjoy!
