				Silly question--cool down noise?

This is a silly question but one I have always wondered about. What is it that makes the clicking, ticking and popping noise when an engine is cooling down after being run??

It's the exhaust. The metal gets hot and expands then when it cools down it condenses again.

You ought to hear the Boxster. The 911 doesn't make much cool down noise. Neither did the '77 I had years ago. I think the more complicated the muffler and cat are, the more noise.

The noises you hear are the 911 God's giving the engine a quick check before it goes to sleep.
