Poll, RSR+ long hood or transform to 993 cup car.

Go ahead vote, vintage long hood or 993 wide body.
The story is…..
I have a wide body long hood that I may re-body into a wide body 993 cup car.
Some background...
The car remains street legal with either body style.
The 993 style would save 150 to 200lbs.
The 993 would be more aerodynamic, maybe worth a car length on a long straight.
The vintage long hood and wide flares create a unique appearance as well.
What's your preference?
Current long hood RSR+.

Or transform to 993 cup car wide body.
Very similar to these but with a cup car nose.
Both these cars are based on mid 70s 911 tubs.

For racing purposes I would go with the 993 cup if the shape benefits. If it were street I would go RSR.

Function over everything. Your car is not a street car so chose the fastest body.

Form following function makes sense, here, given your build strategy. Keep in mind the existing parts are probably very valuable to many on this board. You could sell the fenders, bumpers, and rear 1/4 panels.

I do like the look of the DZUS clips holding on the fender flares (for the REARs).
Keep us posted!

993-bodied racers are a dime a dozen. If your goal is to win races and you don't care what car you do it in, then the 993 body is probably the way to go.

But your car is one-of-a-kind. In your shoes, I'd stay the course, whether it's for racing or street use.

So far it's a tie.
The board appears split on body preference.
Remember to vote.
Good comments too, thanks.

993 form follows function or keeper of the Long hood tradition?

RSR for the history and good looks with character. Can't get enough character these days- Both look great, but only one has the history and is appreciating in value.

Stay RSR+. It's unique... as Jack said there are too many 993 cup bodied cars around.

I like the 993 widebody look more personally, but I can't imagine doing all of the sheet-metal work you've done on your car and then tearing it apart before seeing it in paint. Your current RSR+ is very unique and there are other ways to gain a car length or two.

If were talking function, I know it's not an option but if I was really looking for the fastest body I would at least consider the Moby Dick body - I don't know if it feasible with the tub or if it was based on a tube frame, however it was very fast.

Your RSR+ looks like a womp womp slot car on steroids. So as such, it evokes a lot of excitement when we see it on the track. No question that the aero sucks by comparing to a 993 or if you did a 996 conversion, but having a car with character- as the RSR + has in abundance- would be my personal choice. It handily shows Chuck Moreland's curve in the flesh

I'm a bit of a Cup car purist so please excuse the nit-pickiness. But there is no such thing as a wide body cup car. 993 Cups used the regular narrow Carrera RS chassis and the front bumper is the same as a street car.

I agree with most.. it's a race car.. go with the most stream line set up you can , and that is the 993

I think if you are going for wins - then go with the 996 body like the pat williams car

http://www.patwilliamsracing.com/2.61tt.htm

(or the 993 like you pictured)

if you are going for looks - then stay the course with the RSR longhood. Keep the brumos graphics...

There is just something special about the look on a competitors face as he is passed by a car which appears to be 20 - 30 years its senior.
