Hot 930.. howcome only 1 bid?

Thought this one helluva car, but spooked about bidding with 1 bid at 1 day and change. Anyone know anything about it? A pelican?

It'd be fun to open the engine up and count the broken rings.....

Still almost 2 days left with no reserve. Watch what happens to the bidding during the last 2 hours and especially the last 10 minutes. There a lots of snipers on eBay.

I like the 20 lbs of boost thing.....nice.
What's that, 1.3 bar? On 95,000 miles?

Yikes... but it "tapers to a very conservative 16 psi..." which is still a high 1.1 bar!

Why not do a prepurchase inspection and find out for sure, it is a beauty (of course, only if you come to terms iwth the seller, first)?

Craig's car is a bit bastardized (or at least considerably modified), AND I say that with the utmost respect and admiration for his car! His is one of my favorites on this board. Looks like this guy has done many good things. I agree that the boost he's running is VERY high and serious cause for concern, though. Maybe he's running lower compression ratios or maybe he's running aviation gas. Tread carefully, but if you do your homework, you can get a good, fair deal.

My car is all bastard and I love it. This could be a GREAT ride!

Doug

Doug -
I agree with your assessment of the EBay car.

I give the seller credit for being honest about everything; with that in mind, get a PPI (which should incl a leakdown).

Many things are done right on his car - the K27 is almost identical to the TC on my car, and the other ingredients are well thought out. The problem is, honkin' boost spikes & preiginition will break rings extraordinarily quickly.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
These parts do sound promising:

"Bottom end was rebuilt prior to my purchase, presumably by Proto-Tech. Unfortunately I have been unable to attain any documentation on this."

Big Red Brembo brakes

New SC 330 Camshafts for good midrange power

New rockers and shafts with rocker shaft seals and new oiling tubes

ARP head studs

Flowed fuel distributor by Imagine Auto for increased fueling (less than 1000 miles)

Aftermarket compressor bypass valve, for improved turbo life and less lag between shifts

New, matched fuel injectors

Recent alternator-Bosch Rebuilt

Replaced engine oiling tubes and hoses

New MSD ignition: Replacing the troublesome Porsche CD ignition box, providing more positive rev-liming, and a much hotter spark,
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

If I were looking for a modified 930, at that price I'd take a look!
....and EBay is infamous for offline deals, if you get my drift.

I'd ask about the top end. It sure sounds as if it has a nearly complete rebuild.

I'd also give Proto Tec a call and briefly check into what was done -

I bet it goes for $30K. Can't the seller pull it off if the bids are too low?

A buddy of mine was going to bid on that car. I pulled him off it, 1.4bar is screaming for trouble.

As for the lack of documentation, it's not that uncommon. Some folks just write the checks for the end result, they don't care how it gets there.
