strut assembly qu.

What purpose do the little "ears" halfway up the main shaft serve? I'm looking at a used strut assembly and they do not appear present on one of the struts. See strut on left of image. Is this the left/driver's side strut?

Are you meaning the brake line tabs?

Eric,
Does it look like they are missing on that strut on the left? Is that the left strut? Is is a problem that they are missing?

Yeah, that is the left side strut. (on the left in the picture, assuming the pic hasn't been reversed). Looking closer, the BRAKE tab does appear to be there. A little hard to see from this pic. I'm not certain what the squarish metal piece on the upper right side of the right (photo) strut it. I've seen them before but don't exactly know the use. Might be a brake sensor of some sort. Those struts look okay to me.

Thanks Eric, I think I see it.
Does look like the square flange bit is not there. Hopefully someone can tell me if they are important?

'85s are supposed to have 2 tabs per strut
1 for the brake sensor electrical connection(this may be disconected)
1 for the brake hardline to flexline connection
