Gloves for wrenching on car in cold?

Does anyone recommend some gloves to work on one's car in the winter that offer some warmth, protection but still allow some "feel" on the parts?

Thanks!

It's hard to beat the new Mechanics style gloves for working on cars. I used to use goat's skin gloves, but now just Mechanics.

Here are the gloves I use for working on the PCar, the other cars, and when I do my concerts. You can pick them up at Autozone for $32.00.I use the all black style.

If you you have a garage that is not heated, you probably need more than your hands kept warm.

I recommend getting a couple electric space heaters when working on your car.

Even in Houston it gets into the 30's (for a couple days anyway) so I use space heaters. I have a couple of the oil filled radiator style heaters that I run overnight before I'm in the garage and then all day. I also have a heater with fans that I run while I'm in the garage. I can get a 20-30 degree differential to outside temp.

Costco is the place to buy Mechanix gloves. You get 2 pairs for under $30.

Watch Sears. They have the same gloves as Mechanix goves but they say "Craftsman" on the back. They usually put them on sale often for $9.99 around holidays. I usually buy a bunch at that price.

Gloves?

Only WIMPS wear glove to work on their cars. Nothing like feeling the sting of the carb cleaner on an open cut when you fish the carb parts out of the cleaner.

Oh you wimps put on a pair of mechanic glove just open a bottle of Techron fuel injector cleaner to clean your system.

If you watch the DIY network you see the wimps wearing their mechanic glove as they remove parts from their Packard, while the real men on DIY got grease under their fingernails.

Gloves!!!! we don't need no stinking gloves.

As they says, NO PAIN NO GAIN.

Ruf porsche - I used to think that way too. I don't have as much time to work on cars as I once did (and it's no longer my occupation) so my hands aren't as tough as they once were. If I can find my gloves, I wear them, If I can't I skin my knuckles...

I bought my first pair of mechanix gloves when I had to change the thermostat in my wife's car at -37°C a few years ago and I've kinda liked them ever since.

I'm wearing gloves, not for the pain but for the health issues with soaking your hands in used oil and brake cleaner... and I work behind a keyboard so I don't have hands like a blacksmith.

I don't use such fancy gloves as above, just some cheap rubberized cotton gloves that you buy for $25/10 pair.

I have some Ironclad zero plus gloves for winter work. They are thin, warm and you can pick up a dime off of the counter. They are marketed to contractors and carpenters, so try your local lumber yard or bldg. supply.
About $25.

edit: I've also used them for 20mi. motorcycle rides at 40 degrees F and 65mph and they kept my hands warm.

Get a heater in your garage then you won't need gloves.

Gloves to keep hands clean? That's what GOJO or Fast Orange is for! Just get your hands dirty! You'll appreciate working on your car more if you do. You'll go from this to this ....

I just got a 4.2 kW propane heater, instead of the 2kW electrical heater I had.
It quickly gets it up to a comfortable 50F.

4.2kW is only about 14500 BTU. I have a propane heater too 40000 BTU (about 12kW). It warms up the garage very fast and it gets so warm in there I can work in a T-shirt.

Yes 4.2 kW is not that much, but it warms up my garage pretty quick, 1h.
I don't have many winter days colder than -10C (14F) and +10C (50F) is as warm as I like it.
And its a cost issue to.

With the Mechanix or whatever gloves, can you still pick up small parts like washer?

I am beginning to hate the nitrite gloves. They always break or get caught on a bolt or something.
