How much to paint a early whaletail?
I'm thinking of buying an early carrera tail, and I'm wondering what I should expect to pay to have it painted. I once called a high-end body shop in San Diego that wanted about $700, which seemed ridiculous. Ay suggestions for where to go in SoCal?

$400-$500 is a fair price. You may want to do the installation and such yourself. You do get what you pay for.
When I did mine, I stripped the paint myself, brought the tail and the lid to the shop, have them paint the pieces to match my car, took them back, installed the rubber pieces, assembled the tail to the lid, and then the lid to the car. That was $450.
