Need Value- Damaged 993 6 speed transmission 60min to decide
Need some opinions on the value of a 1998 993 C2 6 speed
transmision. From what im told the tranny still is perfect . The only problem is that the bell housing is broken off, so I would need a doner bell housing. How hard is this to come by would any used p-car yards carry this. Right now my plans are all over the place but Im planning on fitting this in my 72 turbo. Am I jumping the gun or should I just look for a good 5 speed G50 . I was actually just going to stick with my 915 just because I already have it and I now they are also very strong, just have to watch 1st. What do you guys think? what is worth? would really apreciate youre opinins. I have 60min to decide |

Im not sure on value but keep in mind what kind of installation hick-ups you might run into. I believe you have to cut the backseat of the car to make room for the extra gear.

less than 300 at best.... I'd say stay away from it since it requies a full rebuilt and can be considered a parts donor if anything...

Thanks for the reply mathew
As far as I know yeah some sheet metal has to be cleared and the torsion tube cut ( Im going coil over anyway) not really a big problem for me. If I knew I could get the parts to fix it I would buy it but I think I will be passing on this and sticking with my 915. I have 30min |

$300 . So thats all its worth, man I thought I was getting the deal of the century for $500. How easy do you think it will be to find a donner bell housing? Is there any advantages over the G50 5 speed? from what I have read, sounds like the 6 speed diffs are pretty week anyway |

I just don't see where such a bell housing would become available. So my guess is it's not that simple.
Also G50 and 993 trannies are not too popular for swapping into ealier cars since you have to put all the extra effort (=money) into shortening the bell housing or modifying the tub, new pedal cluster, and so on. IMHO this money is better spent making a nice 915 bullet-proof by adding a cooler and some strengthening. That being said my 915 with no mods is holding up like a champ to the 3.6 torque for more than 20.000 miles in 2 years now..... Ingo

Thanks Ingo
yeah I pretty much made up my mind, I will be passing on this one. I just dont see the parts needed to fix it becoming available and also I Kinda feel like Im scraping the bottom of the barel buying a wrecked tranny . I think Im making the right choice. Still seems like a deal at $500. |
