chrome vacuum plating sources?

We have a client that just has to have a chromed Carrera emblem to match the chrome anniversary 911 emblem. Since we can only get black plastic from Porsche, the obvious thing to do is get it vacuum plated. What sources are out there that anyone has had experience with?
Thanks!

Dave: Give Astro Plating in Van Nuys a call. If they can't do it, they might be able to refer you to someone else.

Also, here's the link to Classic Components:

Good luck!

HMM I wonder if the e-beam gun is still hooked up in the chamber at work? I have a Chrome target.

Depending on the type of plastic it may or may not stick. Although Chrome sticks to many things and is often used as an adhesion layer for other metals.

Sorry to be thinking out loud...

Dave: Classic Components is in Santa Ana. They look promising!

Good luck!

Try AAA Plating in Compton or EmbeePlating in Santa Ana.

just got off the phone with a friend that makes the nameplates for Ford. Here is the skinny on chroming plastic. Though the initial product would look stunning, he points out that exterior use of this would lead to its early demise. The ever so slight differences in the expansion rates of the metal plating and the plastic substrate would result in early failure. I.e- it would fall off , crack, peel- all of the above. Given that this process would be at least in the $100 range and up (he pays 300 for each prototype they make before manufacturing in metal) this would be a costly and possibly short lived experiment

I think we need to find someone that can pour them in brass, then we can get them plated the "right way" so it lasts a lot longer
thanks for the help guys- i have a shop in mind that may be able to pour brass
will post my findings then

So now a new thread
