Bosch spark plugs

ok I'm sure I'm behind the times on this, but I found out today you can not get the old cooper Bosch Super plugs anymore. There is a replacement: Bosch Super Plus

Yttrium-enhanced copper core center electrode

I've always used a cooper plugs. Has anyone used these new plugs and have an opinion?

I think NGK still make coppers.

Autolite makes coppers too. Most people laugh at the thought of using Autolites, but they are good spark plugs. I use the 64's on my 3.2 Motronic. As for the Bosch, I haven't used them. But if it's their copper replacement, it should be fine. Bosch knows there's still ALOT of cars on the road that need copper plugs to run properly

I've been told NGK's are the hot setup right now. I don't remember which NGK's I have, but they're going in at the next valve adjustment.

You should have BPR6ES if they're the standard plugs and not the fancy V-Power or Iridium plugs

Which NGK, and is it cooper or Platinum? I've heard that platinum plugs are fine for fuel injected engines. I've only had two 73's, and actually the same motor in both cars and it's carbureted. Since they tend to run on the rich side at the bottom end (to keep from going to lean at the top end) they tend to foul the platinum plugs. Dazed and confused.

Get the cheap NGKs. They are ~$2 each at any Autozone or CSK and work, period. Seriously, they last a surprisingly long time for me. BPR6ES for the 3.2s, but I don't know about the other engines. Don't forget to gap them.

In my 72E I ran NGK BPR7ES. In my '86 3.2 I run NGK BPR6ES which is a bit hotter plug. Both are copper core.

Just use the basic/standard NGK. They're copper. Check out NGK's site. It's quite informative

http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/tech_support/spark_plugs/index.asp?mode=nml

and do a product search to see which plug they recommend for your engine.

And BTW, don't think that all fuel injected engines don't mind the use of platinum. Some do not like platinums. I don't know specifically why. But I do know my friends who are auto techs tell me they get driveability/poor performance problems in cars all the time. The first thing they typically check is to see if the vehicle has been "upgraded" with platinum plugs. Original spec non-platinum plugs are installed and problem solved. I bet if you do an Early_S_Man search with the term "platinum" you will find the answer. Warren's electrical knowledge is staggering!

Kurt/Kevin,

Thanks for the info. I still have a few sets of the old Bosch plugs in my parts boxes. There may be more in the trailer, I'll have to look. But I'll definitely check out the NKG.

I've been running NGKs and they're fine. Getting back to the original question, has anyone used the "new & improved" Bosch Super Plus?

Thanks Joe, I'm still waiting to hear that answer as well. Not putting down the the NKG's, but would like to hear about the new Bosch.

I hope people don't mind I am asking a silly question. What differences will it make if I am running a little hotter or little colder plugs?

I am thrilled that the Bosch are made in Brazil and not just a pure copper electrode. I understand their coating makes it last longer but 15-30K in my daily driver is fine with me. More frequent replacement in my Porsche is also agreeable to me. I have been using the NGK V-Powers but would rather the standard NGK in my daily driver. Where can I pick up the standards online because nowhere near me carries it.
