You Guys Have an Opinion???

My 1977 carrera 3.0 recently developed a pull to the left in the front. It is noticeable in the steering wheel. What is odd is that the car has been aligned twice to factory specs. The car is european spec with european ride height. The ride height was measured and is the same on both sides front and back on a level surface, but proved inconclusive (measurements were equivalent). Additionally, when you drive the car the pulling force is unaffected by speed, the faster you drive the pulling seems to be the same, even a bit less pull at higher speeds. Additionally, i swapped the left and right front tires briefly because i thought it may have be a broken belt or tire defect (the tires are new and the problem seemed to develop at the same time as the tire replacement). I have put a few miles on the car in this state and have notice no uneven tire ware preliminarily.

Anyway that is my issue if you guys had any input i would appreciate it.

Swollen brake line, dragging caliper, seperated belt in tire.

Has the car been corner balanced since you got rear ended in April?

i vote for the corner balance question. how much do you weigh? (do people call you "beefcake"?) depending on the amount of sag with you in the car, it might be enough to change the tow angle on the left front, which affects the whole alignment. you can ask your aligning folks to put some weight (you might need to supply it) in the driver's seat after they put it on the rack that simulates your body weight. how about the fuel weight when it's being aligned, also?...

Inexpensive test: Drive the car for about ten minutes at speed, then pull over gently and stop. Carefully (carefully) reach through the wheel to feel the calipers. Both should be relatively cool to the touch. If one is warm/hotter than the other - it is dragging.

I used an IR Thermometer to diagnose a stuck caliper on my Porsche.

On Emissionīs test : Frequently sufficient to touch the outside face of the rim. The caliper heat is transfered rather well to the rim.

True, you'll know well enough if the caliper is hanging...

I suspect the new tyres since your problem only started when you changed them. Check that they're not uni-directional and you've got one on there back to front. Uni-directional tyres usually have 'left' and 'right' printed on each side, so your left hand tyre should say left and, obviously, the right hand one should say right. If they both say the same thing, that's your problem.
