apart from non stock ignition , and the lower valve covers that seem upgraded, i'de say the whole car looks pretty good, unmolested and complete...

obviously it's no S and it's a Karmann , which some people would say is worth a tad less, but it's still a nice example...

pricewise , it might be a contender for something more than the current bid, if there's a concours nut out there, and he wants that car... who knows...

if seen cars with more flaws posted with higher reserve, but i generally don't follow up to check if they went or not , this one , i think will sell , if the reserve isn't to far off from what the bid is at now...

cars like that go for more than the current price in Europe... at dealers... and we have Euro's instead of dollars

Plenty of small stuff in the photos -- the manhandled right side rocker deco, the oversprayed passenger side door stop... just enough to make you want to give the whole car very close scrutiny. Isn't that the generic 'replacement dash'?

But aside from ham-fisted restoration efforts, the level of documentation (90 pages?!) enhances the value for a certain kind of buyer. I do not think this car is overpriced.

"the manhandled right side rocker deco "

man , you got good eyes, i barely notice it on these pics

dash , dunno myself...

but yeah on the scrutiny , but that goes for any early 911, or any 911 for that matter

Seems like a nice enough car, but way too rich for my tastes. I'd be afraid to drive it. I'm floored by how anal the original owner was and how well preserved the notebook is. If I had a notebook that was 35 years old, it wouldn't look that neat. Heck, my work notebook from this year has more dog-ears then that book appears to have!

I was just about to post that. I've got an MFI'd car (generally acknowledged to get better mileage then a carb'd car) and I get a steaty 20-22 mpg. How is he ever getting 30 mpg???

Too bad they went with Guards Red on the repaint.
Didn't scroll through the ad. Did it say what the original color was?

I can beleive the MPG thing. My 67S got a consistent 26-28MPG's on a 2500 mile trip last year. That's mostly backroad highway stuff, so probably as good as it's gonna get.

Funny thing on the MFI though, I've actually heard it's pretty thirsty compared to carbs. In fact, in more than one period article (R&T and C&D) they reported getting only 13mpg in a 72S.

You think that's bad, when I bought my '71 from its original owner he had a similar notebook. Except he tore out all the notes and handed them to me saying there were still plenty of blank pages in this $1 notepad he could use for something ......

I get 16-17 in mixed street/highway with my 2.0 with stock MFI. 30 mpg?! He must have shifted at 3500 rpm and spent most of his time gliding in neutral.

Hate to pick apart a car but, It would take more than just a little to Concours this car....

The overspray on both sides is really evident. The car has been repainted, but never mentioned in the sale bill. The car's code is Polo Red, that's not the color of the car. Polo Red is deep deep red, almost like the 2004 Audi TT Amulet Red. Paint is really thick in the door jamb area. So a paint job for starters would help to Concours the car.

The Delta Mark 10 (also available as a Heathkit) was an aftermarket CD ignition system that paralled a "points" system to give a sharper cutoff to the ignition coil. Didn't really boost the spark or do as well as the later MSD stuff. The Permatune was of course "stock", and had reliability problems.

How many miles do you have to drive to get enough dust, etc to quiesce the oil marks on the underside by the differential? It looks fresher than "long ago".

It's a nice car, but not Concours.
