Happy again/ rebuilt alternator

A few weeks ago my 86 left me at the side of the road. It turned out my alternator had died. Thanks to all of you and "101 projects" I was able to remove it and send it to the doctor. A few days later I was happy again with nice healthy charging of plus 14v at the battery. (no more pulsing headlights.) Paid 200 bucks for a rebuild and it looks like brand new. lots o new parts inside.
I'm guessing that it was a good price. ??

One thing I noticed was while the alt was out I had more of the usual oil drip under my car. I'm guessing that I released some pressure on a O-ring around the pulley shaft. Also noticed that there were 7 shims as apposed to 6 total shims on the alt. pulley
3inside and 4 outside. When I replaced the alt I stuck with the 3 out and 3 in. The belt seems fine but I still see the (more than usual) oil drip.

Now my question is what O ring or gasket could be the culprit and (more importantly) can I change it out with out dropping the engine. Is it a pain or relatively easy?

thanks

$200 bucks?? Not to rain on your parade I had my rebuilt for under a 100 bucks.

Could be oil from the top of the engine most likely suspect the idiot oil light sender for the oil pressure.

Steviee,

I took mine in for a rebuild only to find that the stator was completely shot. $280 for a rebuilt replacement makes yours look like a bargain. Some days you're the windshield, others...
