XM Radio where/how to mount??

Any of yall have Satellite radio mounted in your 911 (1988 model)
Santa is bringing me one (Delphi Skifi 2)and would like to see the mounting on others cars.
Pics of the install would be greatly appreciated.

The XM Rodie fits pretty well in this space. I wired it in without much care but gives you an idea of the fit. Antenna goes on the dash because it left very fine scratches on the hood when mounted there. The problem with the roadie was its reception is run through an fm radio band and needs to be fixed to a new station due to local travel.

I have done a few of these installs, though mainly on Toyotas. For best reception, the antenna or antenna ground plate should be mounted on a wide, flat area like the roof or other equivalent body panel. A second choice would be on top of the IP.

I disagree....I had my gps antenna on my 911 for months & an XM has been on my wife's 3 series for over a year, NO scratches what so ever, even under very close inspection.......

Chris, you need to drive and corner faster so it would move on the hood I'd guess. Just kidding. Maybe its the red paint but mine left scratches so I moved it.

Why wouldn't you just flip it around and mount it on the cowl? I would think it would look better there and not break up the hood.

Mine was on the cowl. Maybe that's why it left scratches since it wasn't up against the fresh air intake vent.

Mine wasn't up against the fresh air vent. The hood opens and closes without any contact with the antenna. I tried it on the cowl but felt it was too unsightly to see the wire....I hid the wire inside the hood and ran it so you never saw the wire. I also think it is less noticeable on the hood than the cowl.....

The wire and antenna were secure so even if the hood was opened, it never moved..ergo no scratches.....I also have an XM satellite on my red M roadster, and there are no scratches on it either....perhaps the magnet is stronger on my antenna than yours was, so it doesn't move......(and I drive my M faster than my 911... )
