Broken wheel nut
I've just had a wheel nut break near the base so there's not enough left to get a grip on it. I've no idea how it broke away in pieces. It was a locking wheel nut that was on the car when I bought it. I'm guessing it might have been aftermarket rubbish.
Any suggestions for removing the remnants? I'm a little bit nervous of damaging the wheel

Drill it with a 3/4 hole saw. And when you put it back on use anti-seize.
See thread How do I remove a broken Lug nut??? for details. Ian

& use anti-sieze on the curved part as well as the threads - just a very thin film.

this just happened to me yesterday. the base stayed and the body came off. i couldn't get the wheel off but by comparing the other nuts i knew that there was only one thread holding the base on. i got under the car and popped it with my foot, not real hard but a good pop and it came right off. i got lucky!
