66 911 wheel advice please
Hi, the restoration of my 66 continues. It is now painted and being put back together. It currently has some 6x15 Max Wheels on it with worn out 205/60 tires. I don't know much about the wheels. Are they worth anything? Anynhow, I am thinking of putting polished spoke fuchs on the car with new tires. What is the optimum wheel size? Can I go 7x15 in the front and 8x15 in the rear? Any other wheel or tire advice?
Thanks in advance, John |

John,
You can fit late 7x15 to your 911 with some modification to the fender lip. An 8x15 won’t fit. I recommend you use 5 ˝ x 15 chrome wheels for the most appropriate look and good performance. Original is 4 ˝ x 15. Yes, 5 ˝ or 6 x15 Fuchs fit and look great. You can also use 6x16 Fuchs all around. Best, Grady

Grady,
Thank you for your advice. I have decided on 6x15 polished spoke fuchs.I am about out of money on this project, and would love to find some wheel at a great price preferably with good tires already on them. Otherwise I will buy them seperatly, but it will take me a little longer. Thanks for your advice. I really appreciate it. John

You would be surprised what a chromed steel wheel with a tasteful hub cap looks like on and early 911......

Here is a 911 with chrome steel wheels. It looks very
appropriate and very cool. It is a LWB, otherwise the same as yours. ![]() In fact it is a “Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing.” Those are Factory 6x15 chrome steel wheels and this is a ’72 2.8S with all the goodies (~270 HP). It has been lurking about since built in ‘74. There is great satisfaction in having what appears to be a nice old plain 911 but will haul the mail. Keep your 911 understated and smile at everyone. Best, Grady |

Hi John,
Now that's the look I am going for. Awsome car. Would love to see it in person one of these days. Maybe a '66' Class Reunion? Thanks, John
